OK, a shout out to the experienced bridesmaids here.

So I went out of town for the weekend for a bridal shower. It was a really nice party, the gal who organized it did a nice job. However…isn’t there always a however?... she asked for $100 a piece from each bridesmaid to cover expense. That would be a total of $600. I kind of expected a luncheon.

NO! I would be pissed off if someone asked me to chip in $100 AFTER the whole thing was said and done. It would be a different story if it was done beforehand because then you could ask to have

No - the request for the money came a couple of weeks ago. That was fine by me. She did the work and opened her home for it - but knowing she was collecting from five of us, plus herself, I expected much more than what was done.

I don't know if anyone else is upset about it. It would be tacky to bring it up, so I was just really venting here.

I wanted to add as well that typically the Maid of Honor covers the majority of the costs and it is simply polite for the bridesmaids to contribute a certain amount that they can afford....to have her expect 100 bucks up front from everybody is ridiculous and it sounds like you got robbed based on what she served.

She didn't expect the guests to pay - each bridesmaid put up $100 towards the shower. There is no maid of honor, just six bridesmaids.

I'm just upset because I think she took in a LOT more money than she spent. I wouldn't care if she had actually used the money.

Well, at first I was a little taken aback by the amount she requested, but when I talked to a friend, she said that's how much her daughter's shower had cost. But they had a catered luncheon. Not crudités and fruit platters.

I could understand 600 bucks for a catered meal but not for what you described!!

$600 for finger foods and soda! Yeah I'd be pissed too cause for that money, she could have gotten something way better. Like an actual full meal.

No - I'll never mention this to the other girls. I won't risk it getting back to the bride.
