How would you react if you found out that the company you work for is going to start providing day care for employee's children?

Well tax payers are the "stock holders". So in this case since other priorities matter more he is in a perfect position to slide in it without resistance, And keep in mind that in this case the problem you see is a solution for young parents living on a teachers salary. For them overcoming your objections is the problem. I just wanted to offer thoughts on why this superintendent might be stuck on the "go" button in spite of low interest, and ways to explore his reasons.
How many schools are involved? How many day care locations? It seems on 16 people with one location an annual budget of $67,000 can support a babysitter. If however they need 10 babysiters at say 25K a year ea., then that alone seems to drop you in a $200,000 hole and would be devastating to a shoestring in a small district. That is why I DO things like I suggested. Public scrutiny brings out the numbers. One center I support, 10 I don't. (And you know my math is short, not over.) If I have a vote, or have some kind of input, whatever . .. I need to know the answers in order to honestly have any real opinion. Emotionaly I remember being a parent and would have welcomed the help, you know. (-: Programs like this are not inherently bad things, and properly done potentially great things.
I would ask questions, I probably would in fact show up at a school board meeting, I do those things as I am spending money either way, on day care or in taxes . . it behooves me to care, and fight if need be . . but done with a single location I think I would be behind the program as described. For parents, especially single parents it would be a god send. If it attracted 10 quality teachers in recruiting, etc . . .it has real merit on the surface frankly. This might be a great investment.
In the end that is what I see. ((-:

I'm not sure how much it would cost.
Now, if they'd open it up to teenaged mothers in the district, I might be a little more comfortable with eating the loss. In the end, that's benefiting us because it keeps the kids in school, and if the mothers stay in school, that raises our ADA, which earns us more money. It might also raise graduation rates. I just might make that suggestion if I'm asked.

THAT is a reason to show up WITH a reporter at a school board meeting. GREAT idea! ((-:
Tag it on, you are ready for congress. ((-: Sell it! (((-:
You will notice I said I would support ONE location. (-: Got to drive to daycare no matter what, I have no problem with the drive, and from what you describe, not a huge area? And tax dollars . . if they want to do it “per building” . . yep, your idea is a very very good one. It keeps these girls in school, and in time the return on investment is what they return in the tax rolls as educated women in society. (-: I can live with that. Even with one location, it is still a great idea . . teachers, staff and FREE to students IF they maintain a “c” average in school.
A plus girl. (-: I am impressed. (-:
What is your local news paper, I will shot an opinion piece at it if you want. What can they do, not publish it? (-:
At my highschool we had a daycare at the tech center across the street and with supervision from the teachers students went and worked in that daycare center for no pay it was class credit.
There is also a tax credit for employer provided daycare facilities so even though they are a school I don't see why they wouldn't qualify for this so maybe they have also taken this into account it's limited to 150k a year but...
Anyhow, maybe you should create a buzz and put it back up on the school board meeting's agenda, I know you said it passed, but have a town meeting about it have it put on the town meeting's agenda and all the teachers go so you can have your say. Ask where the funding is coming from etc. So at least you feel better about it.
