Hi there all,

I just got back from a couple of days in DC for the job. I posted in Craig's List under the platonic section asking for someone to have dinner with. I emailed back and forth with a few guys and eventually chose one for dinner and had a really nice time last night. He was smart, funny, and a gentleman. He even insisted on buying dinner even though it was meant as a friends kind of thing. Turns out that he's really cute and I found myself attracted to him and.... he's only 5'9". I am sure you all have heard me say I am not attracted to men under 6'. Hal, in particular, will enjoy my eating crow so I thought that I would share the experience.

I had drinks with a friend planned for after dinner and he came along for the first part of that too which was really nice. He is here for work every few months and I am there now and afgain so hopefully I will see him again soon and see whether I can kiss someone who is barely taller than I am. I may have to buy some flats...

I had oral surgery 6 years ago. Vicodin is wonderful and works fast! I used every last pill. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Lesley. I have actually been pretty darned miserable. The vicodin barely dents the pain so I have been taking Aleve too (the pharmacist said that was OK). Even so, I spent all of yesterday with an ice pack on my face near tears. My mom pureed some soup for me becuase the surgeon said that I have to eat but it took me 2 hours to get through a bowl of cold soup. Blech. I woke up this morning feeling the same but am starting to rebound a little.

The good thing about being so miserable is that I don't even care about the fact that I have not had a cigarette in over 24 hours. The patch helps too. But I have a feeling that, as soon as I feel better, the not smoking is going to be really rough. I told myself that I am only going to not smoke for the week that the surgeon recommended. If I say that I am quitting, I will absolutely freak out. I can reevaluate at the end of the week, ya know?

Oy.

OK - I am done complaining. I am so glad that I could read the board this morning. It helps to distract me and it's nice to be sitting upright for awhile. Hope everyone is having a great day.

I am glad to hear that you are having an endoscopy - hopefully it will give you some answers. Keep us posted.

And by the way - when did we become a group of old ladies? The board this morning is half about endoscopies and oral surgeries and knee injuries. It's a lot like when I encounter a group of old ladies on the bus comparing maladies. Heeheehee

Thanks, Pam. I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Glad day two is looking up.
That's great that you're giving up the smokes for this week. Just as I was reading your post I was on the phone with a friend (I have to multi-task) who quit about two days ago. She's got the patch and she says she can't believe how good she feels. She was saying how she feels healthy when she wakes up in the morning and she's not used to that. As many agree, she said the hardest thing is finding something to occupy her during the times she would normally smoke. She's drinking more coffee because of it but otherwise is doing ok so far. One day at a time I guess.

Sending well-wishes your way!

We're not officially old ladies until someone brings up their gas problems or fiber intake.

You're right though...you'd think we were all posting from hospital beds or something!

Now I think I'll have to start a post about sex so we can all redeem ourselves as young hot singles.

"So I was sitting in my hospital bed, and the nurse made me take a lot of fiber and it gave me gas...."
