On a date: answering this question?

If you're on a date with someone, and they ask you if you've ever cheated on someone, and you have, what should your response be?

As I see it you can either lie or tell the truth and have them question if you can be trusted.

Any thoughts?

I'd say something that shows you have regret over doing it. For example, "when I was younger, I did actually cheat on someone, but now I really regret that because of how much it hurt that person." Or, "yes, but I'd never do it again because I have learned from my mistakes and believe in being loyal..."

Touchy subject. Was it a first date? That seems like a pretty heavy question for a first date.

No this actually hasn't happened, I agree that it would be a pretty heavy question for a first date. It's just one of those things I've been thinking about...lol.

I've never cheated on anyone, but I'm pretty sure I'd tell the truth.

>>Some of them carry a bitterness about it- a sort of distrustful nature- and I don't like not being trusted because of what someone else has done. <<

This happened with the last guy I dated seriously. He wouldn't let it go, and was convinced I would cheat on him as well. I've never cheated and never will because I really believe in dealing with one relationship before you move on to another one.
