I bought a Mac a month and a half ago thinking it was FINALLY something I wouldn't have to worry about.

My first two laptops (remember, I'm only 23) were crap.

That's odd. Mac techies are supposed to be the smartest of the lot. I would suggest taking your iMac down to one of the Apple stores. Whether or not it's covered under warranty they will (usually) still fix it free of charge and even replace parts if need be. And they are really quick !

As for the HD, the data should still be recoverable even if the hardware has failed. Don't know if Apple will charge for it but there are services available online that will do it for a fee. I am still kinda surprised you were having problems with a Mac. Aren't Macs supposed to be bulletproof ?Or are they ?

Well, most of that time I spent on hold, a problem I didn't have with the other brands of PCs (though their tech support was just not that bright).

LOL Well, the first guy that I talked to the second time I called (crazy, I'm telling you) had a ridiculously thick accent (I could literally barely understand him) and I was just praying he wasn't going to help me fix the computer. He didn't. :)

Anyway, it's fixed. The guys at the store were great and although I'm tired from running around and waiting, I'm glad it's all right. :)

No, but I'd forgotten I'd e-mailed it to myself before, so all is well now...I'd just never exported it from the Pages format so it was difficult to open anywhere else. Now I actually have to FINISH the personal statement. Blah.
