Do men and women like each other?

I just see so much of the "men are jerks" and "women are just gold diggers" crap that I wonder if we really even like each other anymore.

I would say the answer to that question is pretty much no, we do not particularly like each other. Women particularly have disliked men for years, and as men realize that its all more and more about getting taken for money and not having to have to work, our dislike of women is catching up. I am a 42 YO guy, and am more convinced than ever, that marriage is usually a scam on men, but my dating life is quite good, and I do happen to fond of the girl I have primarily been seeing, but I've no intention of taking it in the direction of marriage. The top dog guys don't want regular girlfriends, and while I am not among the top dogs, the only thing honestly keeping me in the "relationship" is that we are playing with other girls and couples.

Um, nice generalizations. As someone who earns in the top 5% of wage-earners, I usually make significantly more money than the men I date. So pray tell me how, exactly, I'm scamming for money?

I don't dislike men in general (in fact I like quite a few of them and have many male friends), but I sure do dislike men who make the types of generalizations you're making!

Tell it like it is, sister! I am honestly a little depressed by this entire thread. I hate to think that so many people are so embittered and have so little faith in the opposite sex. It genuinely concerns me - are men that I meet thinking that way? Certainly none that I am friends with do, but I live in a somewhat sheltered environment of successful, intelligent and accomplished urbanites. I am well aware of the fact that my life experience is not that similar to the life experience of a good 80% of this country. Sigh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. This entire subject is pretty disenchanting, even for a "realist" like myself ;-)
I think it's like any other squeaky wheel... those that have been burned are going to be more likely to broadcast their generalized opinions in order to protect themselves. Meanwhile, the rest of us have to keep the faith and spread the word that there are, in fact, good men and women in the dating world.

Are men thinking this way?

I have made a committment to try and see women as individials, not just "another woman". Yes, I am guilty of lumping all women into the same category - either too high-maintenance, too unrealistic, too fickle, too materialistic or pretentious, or too self-absorbed. I came to the realization that it is impossible for every woman to fall into one of these categories. So, I made it my mission to try and see people for who they are. Throwing out all of these preconceived notions will help improve my perceptions of women and my relationships with them (I hope!).....
