Do you ever go out alone?

I've been wanting to go out since, I don't know, last week and everyone's just been busy when I'm free or some variation on the like. I'm tempted to go to a bar and have a martini (I hardly ever drink them, I don't know WHY I have a craving) or a glass of wine or something by myself after work but I'm not sure...has or does anyone else go out alone, particularly to bars? I feel like I'd practically be putting a target on my back, but maybe not considering the time and if it's a nicer bar...

I've done that a couple times. I went to my favorite bar and chatted with my fabulous bar tender. He makes my Maker's and ginger just right. Some of the nicer bars in the city are fun for the single girl. Try the Oak Room at the Four Seasons or Cuffs at Jurys. It does take a certain mentality, but hey, you already know what your couch looks like.

I go out alone often. In fact, I have concert tickets tomorrow, totally alone. I can't wait for friends to want to come along. I just do it, now.

Good to know...I was actually thinking about Redline in Cambridge because I work near Harvard...I'll think about it. :) I got all dressed up for work today (because I just felt like it, pretty much) and now feel like I should go somewhere or do something...if I'm still uncomfortable, I think a Sox game would be a good reason to go and sufficient training wheels for me, so to speak. :) At least I'd know I'd have something to do...

I've gone to a few bars alone and I went to a movie alone last week. Doesnt bother me at all. When you move to a city without any friends, you learn to entertain yourself. Thats how I got over going alone because I didnt want to miss anything or wait around. Now that I'm back home, I have one friend that is still around but with our schedules, it can be difficult to get together.

If you go to a bar, be sure to control your consumption and watch who mixes your drinks.

When I was younger, that is, as young as you are :) I used to go out by myself all the time, and everywhere. Bars, pubs, clubs, gigs, huge 40,000+ capacity rock festivals, EVERYWHERE - and regularly. It was all great fun - I used to love it. I didn't give a
%^&* who thought what, and how I was perceived. It stopped being fun around the time I turned 30 - I honestly don't know why, it's probably just me. Nowadays at 36.. no way lol. I don't see a point, or how I could possibly enjoy it. Again this is only my experience - other posters here will offer you theirs, I'm sure.

I have gone out alone for a glass of wine. Hey, sometimes you just need to and if you can't find anyone else, heck with it. I'm very independent and go out to eat and go to movies alone all the time. So, do it! You might feel a bit odd without anyone to talk to and some people may approach you and you may not want to talk to them, but the bartenders always seem to have your back! Go for it!

Thank you all for your responses, I actually do feel better about it now. :) The funny thing is I don't mind going to theaters alone or anything like that (or even eating, really), I guess I just feel self-conscious in a bar setting...but like I said, I think I'll go catch a Sox game sometime soon, if worse comes to worst and I feel weird with no one to talk to, I can watch the game (and I would have at home anyway, and probably with a beer, haha)...then maybe I'll feel better about going by myself just for the hell of it. :) I also have very few baseball-fan friends, so if I feel like going someplace to watch the game, it's going to have to be by myself. :)

I never have and would probably feel really weird about it if I did.
