When it comes to engagement rings, does the cut of the diamond matter to YOU or are other qualities more important (type of cut of the diamond, clarity of the piece, settings whether on yellow gold or platinum, etc²)???

Engagement rings! Damn! I'm just trying to get a boyfriend who will stick around after sex. Uhh.......let's see............Seriously, I'd be happy to get something out of a Cracker Jack box if it was given with genuine love.

Seriously- we're not a group of women who sits around pining over a ring.

Well... I am not into finer things in life, nor consider myself as the "money hungry leech vampire" but I do think that a ring whether engagement and hopefully later, a band, is a symbol of commitment to ONE person and once, given the choice to decide, if any other women in here do really look at the type of ring(s) they received from their b.f. or fiance or whatever. I certainly wouldn't want a cracker jack-box circonia quality because I think that once I fall deep over-head-heels in-love with my soul-mate, or whomever, wherever he is, that our love would be bind with real quality thing called "love" and not something else like lust or temporary way to get citizenship or get benefits from the government (if he was a non-civillian). That's JUST hypothetically speaking, though... I guess single gyrl like myself, just had to ask the generic ivillage opinion boarders. Thanks for the input, though..

I don't think the quality of the ring signifies the strength of the love that binds you.

Well I've thought about the diamond if I ever got one again, but the size really doesn't matter

The cut of the diamond and the color of the gold matter more to me than size of diamond.

I like princess cut and I like white gold. I don't have really big hands so a smaller diamond would be best nothing too huge.

Yep, gotta second Shywon here. I'm not at all thinking about marriage, I'm just trying to get to a solid relationship. I'll worry about marriage and engagement rings if I ever get to that point.

But I also don't place much value in material things as symbols of love. If the love is strong and solid, I won't really care.

Would I just be a boring and practical man if I said for normal working class couples with a minimum of disposable income . . .a down payment on a house to build a future in might be a bigger act of love? Yea, yea . . boring . .right? (-:

No I totally agree. A house will at least appreciate in value.

I want princess cut on platinum. Preferably one carat. And the more sparkly the better. I've tried on $10,000, $50,000, and $150,000 ones but the one I remember and like the most was $6,000. It was jaw-dropping beautiful. I couldn't even tell you what the $150,000 one looked like but it was HUGE...lol. Too much for me for sure. Unless you're a millionaire, spending that kind of money on a diamond is crazy. I think under $10,000 is perfectly fine.

My friend hates her ring. And it is ugly. It's a cluster of tiny diamonds made to look like one diamond and the setting is gaudy. Nothing like she wanted at all. He can spend thousands on his bike but he sure did cheap out on her ring. It's embarrassing to her.

I'd love just a diamond solitaire, either round or princess cut, on regular gold (although it seems white gold and platinum are more "in" right now), 3/4-1 carat.
