E-mail vs. phone

Does anyone else get annoyed/frustrated with a guy who will only make dates by e-mail and never calls?

I feel like it's laziness/lack of effort on his part. Also, I think it would be nice for a guy to call just to chat once in awhile.

I guess I am really feeling like I want a man who makes an effort.

Am I being unfair?

AJ, enjoying life with C.

If you prefer to set up dates by phone, I don't think there's anything wrong with expressing that preference, even after just a few dates.

The next time he emails instead of calls to set up a date, I'd write back something along the lines of, "please give me a call tonight so we can discuss".

Hi tallgirl,
You would be surprised how many men become literally tongue tied on the phone when talking to a woman they're interested in..., if a guy has had this happen a few times and blames that on the failure to get a date, another date, or continue the relationship he may just refrain from calling at all figuring he'll do better in person.

I definitely agree that a man should call and ask a woman out once he gets her number..., anything less would be seen as weakness on the man's part...., but don't expect me to be on the phone for hours. I will usually call, and then BS for a few minutes and then set the date..., if she declines I'll change the subject, talk for a few minutes more and then say goodbye. If she doesn't offer another date or time or event I won't press the matter.

I prefer setting up dates by e-mail than by phone because there is no need to write down details. This way there is less chance of missing the date due to a misplaced Post-it® Note! E-mail also has the added advantage of being a send and forget system. Phone calls require arranging a convenient time to talk (which is usually done through e-mail anyway). The phone should only be used for meaningless conversation and entertainment.

What kind of "entertainment" are you using the phone for, Hal?
