I ran across this article which has profound facts on why dating has become more difficult.

It's probably always been difficult since people want what they can't have. I saw a post on Quora about a 5'0 guy having trouble but another guy responded saying he's well over 6' and also has trouble.

Even in the days when courtship was more like shopping/auctions, there's someone who'll have to say "Baron So&So was able to get more gold because he got lucky in this campaign and that's why he got Lady ___ over meself."

The article mentions an archetypal 85k-making woman with the 12k man. I have to give those guys kudos for landing the girl to begin with. They can be worth more than 12k if they teach the 85k guy how to get the 85k girl! because men still make more on average, I think, (circa 2011 :))

It would seem to me that men need to then redefine their role and adapt, just like women have had to for decades and will continue to have to. So what if physical skills don't have the value they used to? There are plenty of other means to make a living with proper training and education. This can lead to new social contracts that make dating different, not necessarily difficult. I think dating will continue to become more and more difficult if men refuse to adapt.

So here's a novel idea--how about we just treat each other as people and not expect each other to fit into any certain roles?

Now wouldn't that be refreshing?!
