Hi everyone,

I hope everyone's summer is going well. I am trying to date, but am terrified. I have posted profiles and found that sometimes, men who don't fit what you are looking for will reply. So I am curious, how do you deal with this?

Another question that I have is this and please don't laugh. Have any one ever met up with anyone that before meeting, you just knew that it wouldn't work out or led into anything special or long-term?

Well as far as the OLD thing, I think there are 2 categories here.  If someone is totally outside what I'm looking for, then either I just don't reply or say something really simple.  Say I'm looking for someone close by and someone from the other side of the country contacts me, then I might just say "sorry, but I'm only interested in someone local."  If they are someone I might not have considered first, but the person seems interesting and nice but just a little different from what I want, then I'd try to keep an open mind.  I think if I was sure that someone wasn't what I wanted at all (not just for long term) then I wouldn't waste both of our time by meeting.

Back when I had a profile online, I'd usually ignore the ones who were outside what I wanted and had obviously ignored everything I wrote in my profile. If someone emailed me and I found the email interesting, but were outside my area or something, I'd reply and tell them why. I probably went out with a few guys I wasn't sure of from phone conversations, but it was more often that I was interested and it never made it to a date.
