I know this is off-topic from the OP, but just felt we needed a history lesson here.
I know many people refer to the women's movement as something that happened in the 70s. Indeed it experienced a resurgence, but it's beginnings go way back:
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, (November 12, 1815 – October 26, 1902), was an American social activist and leading figure of the early woman's movement. Her Declaration of Sentiments, presented at the first women's rights convention held in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, is often credited with initiating the first organized woman's rights and woman's suffrage movements in the United States
The National Women's Party took the ERA to Congress in the 1920s, where Sen. Charles Curtis and Rep. Daniel R. Anthony, Jr.—both Republicans and both from Kansas—introduced it for the first time as Senate Joint Resolution No. 21 on December 10, 1923, and finally...
...national women's suffrage did not come until the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified in 1920.
In summary: women have been tired of putting up with cr*p for a very long time.
p.s. to OP: I think going to a comedy club sounds like a great idea. I would be delighted if a man asked me to do that on a first date. Get coffee afterwards.
