What kind of first impression do you want to make on people when you meet them?

That's a complicated question - for me, it depends on who I am meeting and under what circumstances. When I am meeting people in my professional life, I want to make a distinctly different impression than I do in my political life or my social life...

Think social, then.

I guess that I would like for people to perceive me as intelligent, funny, together, and poised. I make an effort to engage people in interesting conversation and stay away from hot-button topics (like politics and religion), try to be articulate, and ease any tension with humor. But who knows how I am really perceived? How about you, Shy?

I don't try to make an impression on anyone.

>What do you do to be sure to make that impression?

I be myself.

Ahh, but you do, whether you want to or not.

The perception thing is important.

>So what does being yourself entail?

Being irresistibly charismatic but in a nonchalant manner.

I think that it is possible to be outgoing and yet still have a sense of propriety that prevents you from interrupting others. I am always most impressed by people I meet who have a perfect balance between contributing to a conversation and listening intently to others. I am not as good at that as I would like. I sometimes find myself easily distracted - it's the ADD part of me. Then again, we all have our roles and I tend to be the one to steer the conversation and get it going through the awkward patches.

And what does irrestistably charismatic in a nonchalant manner look like?
