What kind of first impression do you want to make on people when you meet them?

I'm not as good at listening sometimes as I'd like either.
I am the oldest of two children. I think that my diplomatic sense (for lack of a better moniker) comes from several places. My job certainly has something to do with it since we have many different opinions on how to make and interpret policy and procedure but in the end there has to be a consensus or nothing gets done (and the government has enough of that going on already). But the thing that has made me the most patient is being a right-leaning person in a left-leaning town. I often disagree with the people around me and have learned to keep my opinions to myself or, if expressed, then calm and even tempered. I was watching one of the Sunday morning shows where a bunch of pundits sit around and discuss issues when someone really struck me. When everyone else was talking over one another and being snarky, he let it happen. When there was a lull in the conversation, he would say his piece and he would just stop speaking if someone interrupted him and then go back to his point when they were done. Because of this, everything that he said carried a lot more weight and force. I think that it might ahve been Byron York, but I'm not sure.
I wanna be that person. Alas, I am not quite that refined or disapassionate.
