Oh, that sucks. I hate those family guilt trips. Something that should be a positive for you (having wheels again) has turned into more stress because your brother is taking *his stress* out on you.

I agree with your dad - try not to worry about it. If you need to take a break from your brother for a bit, then do that. Hopefully your dad and bf can fix those issues.

FWIW, ALL cars have issues. It's inevitable - and I think it's one of the most stressful daily-life things. The stupid car always needs to be fixed right when you feel like you have gotten a few steps ahead, put some money in the bank, etc. My old car had issue after issue a few months back - just when I had saved a decent vacation fund. I eventually had to buy a new car - so now I have car payments again, and the down payment eat into my vacation fund. It's sort of a vicious cycle.

First, the "drama" your brother introduced it indicative of "his" problem. Not yours. (-: Let that one go.
You can love him, even support him if he decides to pull it together, but you cant solve anything for him.
He is in a place where they can suck you into the black whole they live in if your not careful. If it's not the car, it will be something else.

As for the car, any ride is better than no ride! It will work out. We used to have that whole inspection thing in Florida, what a pain in the but.

I have this saying . .. the one thing we can count on in life is the "hard" times . .. . the GREAT thing about that . .. it shows us how good the good times are that also will surely follow. (-:

I totally agree that all cars have issues.

I'm sorry, I hate car issues. When something major goes wrong, there's just no way around it. It has to be fixed and when there just isn't enough money . . . UGH. I feel your pain.

Your brother must be under a lot of stress, huh? He probably did not mean for his words to come out as they did, you think? Of course, that's no excuse, but I bet he comes around.

*My car has been sitting in the lot at Nissan for three weeks now. Everytime I call they tell me that the part hasn't come in yet. I fear that this is what I have to look forward to everytime something goes wrong with it. I've only had it a few months. The first day I had it, the keyhole cover fell off, then the entire door handle, then the gas cover stopped opening and closing. I never had any problems out of my Honda. Oy! I am kicking myself.

Oh, I'm absolutely sure that he's just taking his cranky mood out on me.

>>When you buy a new car, can you ever turn around and somehow "return" it? I know that sounds ridiculous....<<

In Colorado, there's a 48-hour return period -- if you drive a car off a lot (used or new) and something doesn't feel right, you can take it back no questions asked.

Unfortunately, 48 hours is not usually long enough for those things to appear - like in cfk's case.

Well, I hope it's a simple fix for you. You really seem to know your stuff.

You know, I have been wondering the same things as yourself where this Versa is concerned. I'm beyond frustrated. I had do drive across town today because the tag on the rental they are providing me with expired. The only reason I got a Nissan was because my brother-in-law is in HR at the plant in Smyrna, TN, so I was eligible for the friends and family discount. In hindsight, that was not a good enough reason ; )

Well, the discount was not very impressive in the end. Sure, it was better than nothing but I could have gotten a Honda for just a little more than I ended up paying for the Nissan.

Emdeesa posted a thread about going with ones gut today. I wish I had gone with mine on this one! I just hope this car lasts half as long as my Honda(13 yrs). If it makes it six or seven years, I'll be impressed.

Good luck!

A blown CE light bulb (?) ..that's a new. Its possible, but I have never heard of such a thing. The CE (check engine) light is on so little during the life the car that there is no reason it should be out. Whats the make/model/mileage on your vehicle ?

Did you mean your car failed an emissions test and the CE light was not on ? That could mean a major problem- likely an Oxygen (O2) sensor common with high mileage vehicles. There are typically two oxygen sensors in your exhaust system (upstream and downstream) that continuously monitor the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and report back to the computer. Too little oxygen means your engine is running rich (wasting fuel, reduced mileage AND polluting), too much is a lean running engine -- you loose power but will not fail you an emissions test.

If the sensor is completely gone, the computer will know about it and turn on the CE light. But in your case it sounds like the sensor is just malfunctioning, ie misreporting to the computer. The computer doesn't know something is wrong when in fact there is.

Have your mechanic scan the computer(ECU) for error codes as it will tell exactly whats wrong.. including a bad O2 sensor . If you have a bad sensor then among other things you will *have* to change the sensor (under $100 ). Could also be a broken catalytic converter (expensive, but less likely) or just faulty plugs and wires (cheap).

Auto mechanics LOVE to run up charges, making you replace parts that don't need replacing, so don't automatically replace anything before seeking a second opinion. If it comes to buying new parts - order them online. Dealerships rip you off.

Ah..missed this post. Faulty bank 2 sensor, that makes sense. Just what I thought .. and I hadn't even seen this post when I wrote my earlier response !

I knew it, I have never been wrong about anything in my life. ( Even when I *think* I am wrong, I turn out to be right)
