If you dont' like this guy, you should say "no", but what if you like the guy, should people say "yes", "sure"..right the way? What does that mean to a guy if he wants you to be his gf?

Oh, I'm giving him a shot, don't worry ;-)! There's definitely chemistry...it's just that I have gone forward based on chemistry before and it's always ended up biting me in the butt, so I'm trying to be sensible about it and see if we have enough other stuff in common first before I commit. We actually just talked on the phone for over an hour and a lot of it was talking about exactly that. I like the fact that he's very upfront with me and able to talk about how he feels, etc...he also calls me on some of my BS too, and that's a good thing.

He's a good guy, I think...but I need more time to feel more sure that we're potentially right for each other before I'm ready to stop seeing a couple other guys I've met recently who I'm also interested in. We are from very different backgrounds though and that's part of my hesitation...time will tell if there's enough common ground. Plus he just moved out here recently from Boston and isn't sure if he wants to stay...so I'm hesitant for that reason too.

Different backgrounds can be a challenge but I would be more worried about his lack of interest in staying.
I'm not getting good vibes from this and I think you're hesitating for more than those reasons. Something has tipped you off maybe? I urge you to listen to the UHOH voice, and don't let him pressure you.
8 times in 13 days? Is he working toward a Boston marathon on dating here?
I agree, keep your options open, don't settle.

IMHO: I think a relationship is void of any real passion if you need to "decide" when you will become exclusive. I have never asked a woman to be my G/f.
