Oh wow - I watched this on BBC America about a month ago!

It's very interesting actually. I myself can't really relate - I'd much rather have a pet than a doll - of course you can't have sex with a pet. Or at least you SHOULDN'T anyway. But at least there's some sort of communication and reaction rather than just a cold, glassy stare.

But it is interesting. The one guy is kind of funny. (I don't want to give it away to anyone who wants to watch) but he collects these dolls - has about eight or nine - and he has JUST started dating a woman, and he invites her to a "party" with his dolls! It's interesting! I was ROTFLMAO while I was watching this originally, thinking - "Yep, I think I met this guy at one point while dating online!"

I ended up watching the rest of it last night. It was oddly interesting. I feel so sorry for those men!? I don't know why, but I felt especially sorry for the Indian/African American guy (he only had the one doll and sent it off to be repaired). He seemed highly intelligent to me, they all seemed relatively intelligent come to think of it.

The guy w/ the guns scared me a little. He's the one who said he wanted to be buried with his dolls. The man in Texas was probably the most normal, if that's at all possible. At the end of the documentary, they said that his new girlfriend had broken things off a week or two after filming.

I wonder what creates these people. I can't imagine being that lonely nor can I imagine being that terrified of the opposite sex; it's so sad. I wonder if these men were to see a mental health care professional, if they would be deemed "healthy".

Nope, no punchlines! I watched the rest of it. Heart wrenching, disturbing and entertaining all at the same time. What an interesting subject to do a documentary on.

It makes you wonder what else is out there that they haven't done documentaries on.

I wish the documentary had focused more on the men's psyche's than on the dolls themselves. I am intrigued as to how they got to that "place".

Well, remember, this same guy had one of his dolls dressed as a catholic school girl. There's a Japanese doll maker who clearly makes more child-like dolls. I found that when I was looking for the Real Doll website. Yes, I took it a step further and visited the website. Just Google Real Dolls if you are interested. There's a page dedicated solely to fan letters. I'm officially freaked out.
