I need a new hobby. Something fairly inexpensive. I ski and snowboard, and I used to hike all the time, but since my doggy died I haven't had the pull to go hiking like I used to. I would get another dog, but I feel bad for it being stuck in an apartment all day, especially since I go to school at night.
So ladies, tell me, what do you do for fun? That's cheap?

I don't really do much fun stuff.
I think volunteering with a cause close to your heart is always a good hobby. And it'll cost you nothing. I work locally with the American Cancer Society and the United Way and they're both very rewarding and keep me as busy as I want to be.
If you're talking physical activity, I'd recommend running. Not that you can't spend your fair share of money on this sport but you don't HAVE to spend a fortune. Really all you need is a good pair of shoes and some comfortable workout attire (which you probably already have). Then, as long as you're keeping yourself warm in the winter and cool in the summer you can pretty much run anytime, anywhere.
I'll warn you though, if you like it and get into it, it can be expensive. I spent more money last year on shoes, race registration and traveling to races than I've spent on Christmas this year. But that's what's good about it, you can take it as far as you'd like.
I live in a large city with a ton of free stuff to do but I am not sure what opportunities there are where you live. I attend a lot of lectures and free concerts at the Chicago Cultural Center. I go to museums on free day (if I don't belong - I do to a couple but would go bankrupt joining them all).
As for hobbies, I bead (mostly jewelry) and hand mill soap. Neither one is cheap but not ridiculously expensive either and I give away a lot of what I make so it saves money on gifts.
I have thought of starting to run actually. And I live close to the mountains so in the summer I have a ton of outdoor things to do, it's just finding things in the winter. I read, and I learned how to knit last winter. I think i might start trying some crafts from Hobby Lobby or something like that. It's too dark to early here (Colorado) and I would be afraid of running at night when it gets dark and it's too cold anyway. What is with this winter?
I am thinking of looking for decorative crafts for my new apartment. I think that will be fun.
I have the same problem with running.
It's the ice that scares me!
I read books. My local library sells books dirt cheap...sometimes in grab bags of 15 books for a dollar. I also play piano and organ. I sell avon, and I create magnets using bead plates, beads and an iron(with a wax paper sheet tween the beat art and iron. I pick them up at walmarts in the kids craft section for 10 dollars a box and can get a good many of magnets or hanging ornaments out of them. I can also purchase buckets of beads, when i run out of beads. I also take hour walks in warmer weather...im not a cold loving person(im thin blooded and skinny) so i do spring summer and fall days for outdoor walks.
I don a walking video during winter.
All that helps keep me grounded in reality since i do not have a home pc..I use to have one and i was an internet addict/chat addict. Now i go to the library and am able to spend 2 hours on net any given day knowing i have to leave because they close. Doing this helps me stay connected to cyberspace but in a more realistic way.
i hope this gives you some ideas. having a side biz along with a regular job takes away boredom.
i love working this side job. I work as a housekeeper in a hotel full time(cept during the down time months from december thru march, i work part time since there is usually 10 rooms a day and 6 maids). OK...now for the answer to your fees question. YES...a low payment of $10 and thats it.No, u read right..Ten dollars. There is online support and training videos all free for your use when u have the time. You can send your orders into avon online as well, deleting lots of paperwork and pencilstrain.
I have made so many new friends and aquaintances thru avon, now. I am not busy to the point that i have no time for my kids or myself. For xmas i managed to sell a great deal and my family had a wonderful xmas because of the 20, and 40 to 50 percent profit margins per product department.
all you need to begin with avon is 10 dollars. I truly feel that if you have the extra time to give to sorting out and packing customer orders and delivering them that this is the job for you. Sometimes u may not be able to go to your customers...thats ok...u can always ask them to come to you.
Go back to the sight and sign up, if you would like to. Or, before signing up...click on Find a Representative and give your local rep a call and set up an appointment with her/him to join. I added the him because there are indead male avon reps...in fact, the avon president is a male. How cool is that?
Good luck.
