Hooked on Desperate Housewives

I went to my local public library the other day and with little else to choose from, picked up the first season of DH. (The blond hair and long legs on the back cover may have played a part). The only thing I knew about the show before I started watching it was that it had high ratings, and from what the title suggested, expected it to be a married women version of the trashy Sex & The City.

Right now I am in the middle of season two, and wow, am I hooked! I am not a big TV watcher but if I were I would probably watch something like Fox 24. But Desperate Housewives is so beautifully done, so absorbing, the characters so real, I can't stop watching it. I am glued to the couch. Anyone else feel the same way ?

The only way shows like these were meant to be watched is with the entire set on DVD in front of you on the coffee table. I would go insane if I had to watch them one at a time, once a week and interrupted every 5 min with obscenely long commercial breaks !!

I think I may switch from watching movies to TV 'epics' like these. 2 hours is just too short to develop all the characters and a story line. For some it takes at least 10, especially like Bree's (Marcia Cross). She is intriguing, she is beautiful, she is principled, she is classy and just a pleasure to watch.

OK let me correct that. The four characters are very different, and each is an exaggeration of a real character. There is the selfish/self centered/hedonist, there is the classic Bee-Eye-ich, there is the doormat and there is the (almost)model wife. Don't know what category to put Felicity Huffman in. What stands out most about her is she doesn't put up with any BS. She is aggressive, outspoken, a go getter and yet somewhat insecure.

Season 1 and 2 were good. After that it went rapidly down hill.

I really enjoy that show, too.

I really get a kick out of the black humor...crack up!

I was up till 3:30 this morning watching the last six (!) episodes of season 3. Now it's going to be a long agonizing wait until season 4 is out on DVD ! (Absolutely refuse to watch on broadcast network).

(What has become of me ? I post on a women's forum, watch Desperate Housewives..what next ?

Thankfully at least my male organs haven't shrunk (yet). If anything, quite the opposite..)

For a change we totally agree on something! I have never seen a single episode of Desperate House wife's yet, but

We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.

Agreed 100 %. Box set is the way to go. I kept saying to myself - ok, after this episode I am going to bed. But it did not happen. This turned out to be the next and the next and ..and the next..

I got the first two seasons from my local library. Season III wasn't available at my local neighborhood branch and the others where it was, there was a long wait list. There was no way I was going to wait that long. For someone who rarely if ever buys DVDs, I went to my nearest supermarket, plunked down $50 and went home with season III.
