How can people DO this??

Completely random, but I was just reading about the charges against Michael Vick (sorry, ESPN.com called :) ) for running an illegal dogfighting ring. It says the operation was "so grisly the losers either died in the pit or sometimes were electrocuted, drowned, hanged or shot." Who in their right mind (which he may or may not be) could intentionally kill innocent animals and/or watch them die?? This entire thing just boggles my mind...

I was thinking the same thing when I read about this.
I don't understand it either. WHY would anyone feel the need to harm an animal for nothing more than 'just for fun'? It hurts to read things like this.

I suggest you pay a visit to your local abattoir. Or do a google image search on 'meat packing' , or 'slaughterhouse' or similar terms.
>They poured and accellerator on it and set it on fire while it was in a cage.<
It's things like this that our justice system needs to institute flogging, caning or feeding these people to the lions. That's psychopathic and truly sick.

YES, we eat meat and animals are 'food'. However, maliciously torturing an animal for the sheer glee and hilarity of it indicates a highly undesirable character and is the first step on a slippery slope. Even if you can't empathize, you can still understand that people who engage in those behaviors don't often stop with animals.
Is he a family man or a babydaddy? There's a difference. ;)
And maybe we'll be lucky and someone will douse him with water and electrocute him.

NOT the same. It's natural for humans to eat meat, we're omnivorous by nature. Yes, it's not "necessary," but the fact that that's the way nature intended it is why I'm still not a vegetarian.
Animal abuse for its own sake is a COMPLETELY different manner and it's not even fair to compare one to the other.
