I want to get a new outfit for when we go to The Nutcracker this year.

Whenever I get a picture or idea of what I want to buy ahead of time, i never seem to find it. But I often go searching anyway and usually end up with something that looks good still, but totally different from what i hoped to find.
So I try to shop with an open mind or else I leave very frusterated.

I do both. If I am on a mission, I will not be distracted by great discounts or beautiful displays. I will scour stores from one end of the city to the other looking for what I want. I will knock down racks and push over little old ladies who get in my way. Hehe. Ok, not really. But I can certainly shop for something very specific. Since I am one of those super coordinated people with dozens of purses and pairs of shoes, this is where I tend to do my task-specific shopping. I really want my purse to compliment my shoes without matching too closely. It is an inexact science, a bit of an art form, and something that only a person as anal retentive as myself can have the patience to do.

On the other hand, I love to roam the stores looking for things that really catch my eye. This time of year is great for that - before Thanksgiving. Both Lord and Taylor and Bloomingdales are having their promotion where you get a $15 gift certificate for every $100 you spend. I love that. On top of that, a lot of great things are on sale for the holidays. I usually end up shopping for myself and a couple of girlfriends since my entire family could not care any less about their clothing than they do. It's all Amazon.com for them which is fine by me.

Don't push over the little old ladies!

I usually have to have something in mind with the idea that I may find something else I like, as well. I really love shopping for other people when I know exactly what to get them, otherwise, I hate it. I'm ok with roaming the stores for myself but not so much when it's for others. I'm not the stereo-typical female shopper, either. I have to be in the mood to shop. But when I am, look out! :-)

Most of the time I shop around until I see something that catches my eye. I will have an idea of the type of outfit I'm looking for, but I find if I go shopping for a specific thing, I usually don't find it and end up frustrated. It also takes half the fun out of shopping!

LOL! Too funny! I'm just not your typical girl that way I guess. Yet I still managed to spend about $400 on boots this year!! ;-)

For some reason, there are ALWAYS little old ladies looking at gloves. I wonder if there is some physiological reason for this. Do our hands just get cold and stay cold once we reach 70?

The reaction of my friends and family to my retentiveness is just amusement. When my older nephew was 2 years old, he would line up all of his little people and have them facing the same way or he would put them in these elaborate arrangements. If anyone disturbed them, he would completely freak out. Every time he did it in my presence, my sister would turn to me and say, "Thanks a lot." As if I had anything to do with his genetic make up. Hehe
