How tall does your guy have to be?

Hey there,

I hope everyone on the board has had a good and productive day.

Let's just say I am a happy guy in my early to mid-20s. I am really genuine, caring and can sometimes catch people off guard with my wit. I have firends and people who care about me. To myself I see a handsome man. I keep my perception at that becuase I'm pretty unpretenteous, and I know that if society got the best of me, I would not feel that way. I'm short. I'm not sure how short, 5'4"-5'5" or maybe a bit more but who cares, that's not the point. Short is short. How tall have your boyfriends been to qualify as a decent, elgible man? I am sure I will be a very happy single man in my later years, and so I am not bitter. I don't think that helps the cause. I'm looking for some folks to lay it on straight. Is height pretty much the most important thing to consider when you are choosing a mate? To tell you the truth I have not had much luck at all even getting dates from a wide spectrum of women, let alone establishing a relationship. Pity me not, but what I would appreciate is some good advice. I'm happy to pack it in and live life as a happy singleton. Would that be best for someone in my situation? Rid the gene pool of short people? haha, j/k

Have a fun evening,

I am probably way against the grain, but I prefer guys who are under 6 feet tall. Preferably about 5'7-5'10. I'm only 5 feet tall myself and I hate feeling like I need a step ladder to get a good night kiss. Also tall men feel the need to pick me up a lot, it drives me nuts! :)

Hi,
I think it depends on the person. I am 5'11' and my ex-husband was 5'8", dated a guy for 5 years that was 5'7". I've also dated taller men than me. I don't have a problem with it.

Me personally - I prefer a guy to be at least 6'. But I'm almost 5'11. That's not a cast iron rule - I once dated a fabulous guy who was around 5'5. I've dated guys in the 5'8 - 5'9 range. I've also dated guys who were 6'9 and 6'11. (6'9 was perfect for me LOL) In every case - personality was why I dated them. So no - I'd say height plays a very small part in the guys I date.

I know a lot of flat jockeys - none of them seem to have any trouble dating. In fact, some have quite the horde of groupies. ;)

Yeah, I'm only 4'11" and I prefer/tend to attract tall guys for some reason...literally if I'm out with two or three of my friends, nine out of ten times I'll end up being the one talking to the tall guy, haha. :) It's just a weird coincidence. And I actually had a guy feel the need to pick me up (literally) last year at a bar on my birthday. I don't really understand the fascination...I also get the "cute" label a lot, which doesn't really bother me, but I have to consciously try to break out of it sometimes.

Anyway, I just remembered, one of the cutest guys I met in recent memory was a short-ish guy on St. Patrick's Day...I made the stupid beyond stupid move of waiting until the end of the night to talk to him, and by the time I came back from closing my tab he was gone. ::sigh::

Alrightey then.

That's the first I've heard that particular reasoning behind trying a bisexual lifestyle.

But hey, sunshine, whatever works.

>>Do women find handsome men who are short attractive or is the height ruin the package? <<

Absolutely. Tom Cruise was the classic example of that before he went all cuckoo. :) I see really attractive short men all the time.

You know, this brings up the flip side to the conversation. Do men prefer shorter women?

The last guy I dated made a comment to me that I was "so tall" (I'm about 5'9" - taller than average, but not towering). he was 6'3", but was apparently used to dating women around 5' tall. I think it was a big reason he decided to stop seeing me - I didn't fit his picture of what a perfect woman should be (short and perky?).

I had another friend in college who was 6'2" and dated a girl who was 4'11". He commented that he did love that he could pick her up and toss her around (in a playful way). That comment always sort of rubbed me the wrong way - I will never be the "tossable" type. :) I was always the tall, lanky one.

Weelll, I do think it depends on the guy (as do most things), but in my experience, taller guys usually tend to like me and short women in general. The last guy I dated told me numerous times that he thought it was cute, sexy (I don't know how that one works, I think he was tipsy at the time, haha :) ), whatever that I was 4'11" and he was 6'1"-ish and told me he loves short girls, BUT he's dating a girl who's 5'5" now. I find that my more average-height friends tend to date average-height guys, which is interesting. One of my friends actually prefers shorter guys, she's only 5'4" and her ex is about the same size.

It's interesting, though, that society's standard of beauty (judging by actresses, models, etc.) is the tall, thin type. I can't speak for the tall women, but they certainly don't make clothes shopping easy for the shorter set either! I'm not THAT short and am thin/proportional, but even petites don't fit me half the time. Who are they making these clothes for?? Especially the tiny sizes that are way too long. I can more easily find a 0 long than my size!!

Try shopping for jeans or slacks with a 36" inseam!
