I Accidently Did Someone Wrong

To make a long story short: I pulled a prank on a friend/coworker of mine and it accidentally back-fired.
Now the friend/coworker won't speak to me even though I've sincerely apologized. I feel like the size of an ant, trust me and I'm very ashamed. My friend/coworker is very mad at me and I want to do right by this person and undo his anger towards me.
Is there anything I can do to seek a friends forgiveness? I meant no harm, I've apologized and tried to undo the damage but I'm even thinking about quitting my job just so he doesn't have to see my anymore. Should I actually quit my job to lessen this persons pain? Or should I just steer clear and hope time heals his wounds?

So what did you do?
I believe that any breach of trust, it takes time and actions that is totally impeccable to regain that trust.

It's hard to know how to respond without knowing more details about the prank, but I hardly think quitting your job would be the solution! This just happened recently? I would think your co-worker would forgive you over time. I can understand that it's uncomfortable in the workplace, but if you've sincerely apologized, I don't know what else you can do. You don't sound like the type of person who would intentionally harm someone else. It seems like you've done all you can do and now it's up to this person to forgive you or to live with the awkwardness.
