I just read that on Yahoo as well.

Love doesn't always come in the neat little package we envision, and I think it's smart to keep an open mind. Some things are dealbreakers, but most things we say we "must have" should be on the "wouldn't it be nice if he/she..." list.

Yeah, there's some serious research and thought in social sciences/psychology these days that says too much choice makes us less happy. Too many options at the supermarket, too many career choices, too many makes of cars, too many dates. Which leads people to adopt a consumer mentality about everything, including mating. Sort of a shame, but a side effect of our consumer culture.

I agree with the article as well. A friend of mine has told me a few times that I need to give different types of guys a chance and stop judging them too quickly according to more superficial impressions. We all do have dealbreakers of course, like I can't date someone who smokes or who is significantly shorter than I am as that just doesn't work for me. But over the last few months I have given guys who do not completely fit my criteria a chance and if anything, it has at least got me a handful of dates. And surprisingly, the guys who pretty fit my old, not-so-well-thought-out criteria of exactly what I wanted ended up being the kind of guys I wasn't looking for-- not interested in marriage, irresponsible, difficult to communicate with, so yeah, I think it is a good idea to give your list of must-haves a review and rewrite.

I wonder if the author would have been interested in the woman he's seeing now if she were 37, Catholic, Republican, and African-American or Asian or Hispanic or Lithuanian (I'm making an assumption that the woman is American and Caucasian).

What if she were an Atheist instead of Catholic?

What if she were 47 instead of 37?

He's preaching about giving people chances. How far is he willing to go? How far are you willing to go?

>> Too many options at the supermarket, too many career choices, too many makes of cars, too many dates.<<

Too much information overload. Too much personal technology. The list goes on and on, and I do agree that we're all victims of the "too much" syndrome these days.

I am currently dating and job shopping, as well as trying to maintain a current job and a life. It's exhausting. I'd like to just zero in on one job and one guy and enjoy both for a good long while. (Oh, and turn off the TV, cell phone, walk instead of drive...)

Just finished reading this. It was interesting... I used to have my "list of things I want in a man" - muscular, clean-shaven, non-smoker, single, no children, college educated, intelligent, etc. and never really got what I wanted from it.

Then after a long dating drought and time for me to get comfortable in my own skin, I whittled that list down to:

  • must not have a police record;

  • must not smoke;

  • single (not divorced) & no children;

  • intelligent;

  • not on life support.

After that list was revised, Mr. Pooh & I started dating.

I'm also job shopping - and I have requirements for that too, besides salary & benefits. I can't relocate. I have to be in a certain area because I have other commitments and it doesn't make sense for me to travel from one end of the earth to the other just to live my life.

It's so tiring sometimes.

"not on life support" ROTFLMAO!!!!!

It reminds me of Kenny Chesney's song Dreams (LOVE that song) and the part that says:

"She swears she won't divorce a third time,

She swears the more she knows about love,

the harder it is to find, the perfect picture of her white
