I found a lump

I'm kind of having a freak out moment. I know it's probably nothing. I was showering and noticed a tender spot in my armpit. I usually can tell when I'm sick because my armpit is tender, but I've never actually felt a lump before. It's about the size of a raisin and doesn't move around. I think it's a little higher than when I'm sick and it's a swollen lymph node. Of course I googled it and got a variety of opinions. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Do you have any cuts/ bruises in your arm /upper body? If there is an infection or a sickness (flu etc) lymph nodes will go into over drive producing lymphocytes and will swell. That's one possibility. Another possibility is lipoma. Lipomas are benign tumors (nothing to be scared of !) of fatty tissues usually found in arms, legs and sometimes the torso. They are very common and never, almost never, turn malignant . Lots of people have them. And lastly the worst would be lymphoma (Hodgkin's) but that would require a biopsy to confirm. Like everyone here said, a trip to the doc is best.
It's probably folliculitis, which is a fancy name for a deep-seated zit. But don't expect to see a head on it, because when they're that deep, the only "head" is the pore, which is a barely visible pinhole on the red bump.
I had one in my armpit, it was a boil. Hurt like hell to drain it, but that's what I did and it eventually went away.
BTW there is such a thing as male breast cancer... it's very deadly and nothing to sneeze at.
I did have a lump once that I could feel, but it wasn't painful at all. It ended up just being a small fluid filled cyst that disappeared. Wish I could be more helpful- but I think it's a good plan to call the doctor on Monday if it hasn't resolved.
Don't wait past Monday--you don't know if you can get an appt. right away & why keep worrying about what it might be? If it's something you'd want to start treating it right away and then if it's nothing, you can know and stop worrying.
Hi,
Fortunately I have not had any experience with this but I feel for you........ :) I also hate going to the doctor, but in this case I would to put your mind at ease more than anything.
Good luck and please keep us updated!
