The doctor's office called today and said my biopsy was positive for H. pylori bacteria in my stomach, which means I just have to take two antibiotics and prevacid for a week and it should be gone!

Now that is really good news - bacteria are always treatable. Woo-hoo! What a relief.

I have been having a tough couple of weeks because my aunt went into the hospital 2 and a half weeks ago (on Sunday night) unable to breathe. She has been on a respirator since. She was in intensive care until this past Saturday (just under 2 weeks) when they moved her to a pulmonary step-down unit. Emphysema. I have spent more time in a hospital this past couple of weeks than I ever wanted to. At least now her prospects for actually living through this look very good. We weren't sure for awhile. Ugh.

Anywho - I am super glad that you will be better soon. Are you still going to stick to a diet?

hey shywon, i'm a long time lurker and just wanted to give word of caution. i'm a 4th year med student and i remember some of the symptoms you described and they don't seem like the ones H.pylori causes. H.pylori causes gastritis which may lead to gastric ulcers and the symptoms are usually a gnawing pain that is relieved by eating or taking antacids. H.pylori may be exacerbating your underlying condition but it may not be the cause of all you symptoms. did your doctor say if he/she thought it was the main problem? i hope your symptoms resolve after this, but i just wanted to let you know so that it isn't a big surprise if some of the symptoms don't go away. definitely ask your docotor if you have more questions.

Jules- So sorry to hear about your aunt. I'm glad things are looking up for her.
And hugs to you, I know how sitting and waiting in a hospital can be.

Thanks, Ruby. I appreciate it. I come from a large, close-knit Irish Catholic family. I personally mourn her condition but it is really tough for me to watch my cousins (they are the 2 of the 10 that I am closest with) and my mother go through it. And, she looks like my mom so it really made me start thinking about my mother's aging and her mortality. But I wouldn't have it any other way if not feeling this way made me not close to my family.

Thanks, Lesley, I appreciate the thoughts.

On a totally unrelated note - have you noticed the absence of our poster here who liked to quote the statistics? I think of him when I see your name because he called you something funny that I can't recall.

I read somewhere where you get it, but the only thing I remember that popped out at me was kissing.
