But wanted to come and give a public service announcement, of sorts. I am aware that at one point in time, there was a poster on this board who will recognize my name who had never had a pap smear, and was quite defensive about her choice in the matter of not ever having one.

Today, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I had a pap smear in January that came back abnormal. I had a follow up pap smear in April that came back abnormal, as well. I went in for a colposcopy, where they did a small biopsy of my cervix. Today, I was informed, the biopsy shows cancer. Tomorrow, I will be meeting with my gynecologist, who will be referring me to a specialist, and scheduling a conization, which will remove a large portion of my cervix, as well as an endomitrial biopsy, MRI, catscan, and ultrasound, to see what stage of cancer I have. We will act accordingly. The conization may remove all of the cancer, I may require a partial or a complete hysterectomy, and I may undergo radiation and/or chemotherapy.

Please, please, please, to protect yourself AND your fertility, please have annual pap smears.

Love - Mindy

Oh, Mindy- I'm so sorry to hear that. You seem to know exactly what's going on and what needs to be done to keep you healthy for a long time. I hope it was caught early. Keep us updated.

Shy- who had her last (normal) pap in October.

((((((((((Go)))))))))))))) and all the rest of you.

Thank you. I am confident (and so are my doctors) that I will get this taken care of and be just fine.

And Shy - although TT and I aren't married yet - we do have a house and a baby together. No, we aren't ALL that boring! I'd rather tell you about the last concert I went to see (BON JOVI!!!! 8th row with back stages passes!!!! Screams like a 14 year old girl!) or the last book I read then talk about MORTGAGES. Gag me. But I do like to talk about my kids. They are so danged cute. :o)

Well, after the past two days, I've come to the conclusion that Miss Conversation Hog is just boring herself. I didn't eat with her yesterday or today, and by golly, there wasn't ONE mention of houses or babies! Everyone else around (married people) didn't mention them either, and they let others speak.

I really used to like this girl, but there was something about her that bugged me. I guess I figured it out- self-centeredness is not a good quality! Just seeing her now irritates me.

I'm glad to hear that you're going to be healthy again soon. Keep us updated, okay?
