Okay, maybe I'm a moron for not knowing this, but I learned that razor burn is ingrown hairs!

The hydrogen peroxide is an old wives tale. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes to water and oxygen when exposed to light making the rusting and dulling process even faster. I know, I'm such a nerd:-P

<> LOL -- but many of us have been there :)

Also when shaving the bikini area, shave in the direction of hair growth to help prevent ingrown hairs -- it's not as close of a shave, but if you can do it once in a while, it helps!

I'm not sure if I agree with the shaving first because your legs haven't swollen yet. But then, my showers aren't that hot. It seems to me that later in the shower is better because the follicles have softened. Or have I lost my mind?

Well, I shaved first today and it's a good 12 hours later and my legs are still smooth instead of stubly, so there has to be something to it.

Hi shy,

There are two other methods you may wish to try: bleaching and hair-removal cream. Then you don't have to shave at all.

I used to use a product for this for my bikini line, I think it is called "Neet." Apply it and let it sit for like 10 minutes and voila...the hair literally dissolves. It's an even closer "shave" than shaving and there's NO irritation.

Plus, you can also bleach the hair. If you are fairly light-skinned without TONS of hair, this is a great option. :)

Neet always used to burn my skin. I wonder if they've improved it since then. I haven't tried it since and that was ions ago. Loved that commercial though: "Who wears short shorts? Who wears short shorts? If you dare wear short shorts Nair for short shorts". Ah, see, it wasn't Neet that I used afterall, it was Nair. Nevermind.

It burnt mine too and didn't take the hair off.

A friend of mine has hair like yours. She paid $200 a pop and had several sittings with a dermatologist to remove her underarm hair. Still there. I felt so bad for her.

Well, any kind of pimple/blemish, whether from acne or razor burn, is the inflammation and/or infection of a hair follicle, so that totally makes sense.

I didn't know that about showering - I thought you were SUPPOSED to do it at the end of your shower because the heat makes the hairs softer. Huh. The things I don't know! LOL

I use Nair on my arms, and if I go for a while without shaving, I use it on my underarms and bikini area. I agree with you on the smoothness factor and less irritation in the bikini area (the underarm area, too). I have to be really careful, though: if I leave it on for too long, it burns my skin (I've never burned my bikini area, but I have burned my arms and legs with it before).
