I need something more exciting than what's going on in my life right now.

Well, I made a ton of new friends when I started venturing out line dancing by myself.

So you just jumped right in with them, no weirdness or anything?

Gosh I'm probably the most UNfun person you'll ever meet! :)

When I actually have TIME to have fun, which isn't much lately, I usually read books, watch TV, or ride my bicycle outside.

When I have time to do something special, I travel - I went to Las Vegas and California last year. And I had a blast. I won $20 at the Mirage playing penny slots. I cashed out and bought myself the biggest margarita I've ever seen and walked the strip blasted out of my mind all day.

Some of the other things I've done in the past were yoga, golf, going to the movies, art museum, and so forth. I haven't done a lot of that lately because I'm in school and THAT takes up a good portion of my time, but I'd love to do some of that stuff again one of these days.

Did you do all of that stuff by yourself?

>Did you do all of that stuff by yourself? <

Some of it, yeah, and some no.

The Las Vegas and California trip was by myself. No one could afford to go with me and I wasn't about to cancel out because everyone else was too poor. I rented a van for myself and drove to a few of the national parks and walked the strip the one day I stayed in Las Vegas.

Yoga and golf I did with others - yoga with my sister and golf with my BF. (And I stink at golf, BTW.)

But I do a lot of things by myself because the majority of my friends have gone by the wayside with their lives. In addition, my sister has a baby now so she's dropped out as well. So for the most part I do a lot of things alone these days.

I just don't find doing stuff by myself all the time fun.

>I just don't find doing stuff by myself all the time fun. I like doing some stuff alone, but everything is just too much.<

No I agree with you there - it's not always a lot of fun. But (for me anyway) the alternative is to never do anything at all anymore. So I just do stuff by myself rather than sit at home. I'd *like* to have people to do things with, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards for me. *shrug* Oh well. I'm not going to let it stop me. :)

I agree that doing things by yourself is no fun. The problem is finding people who want to do the same things as you. For example, I love jazz. Not many people do, so I will go to jazz clubs alone once in awhile. It's something I do just for me. If I were a little more assertive, I might actually meet people while there as well. I also ran a Yahoo group for jazz lovers for a little while, but people were too flaky - they would RSVP and not show up to the shows, so I disbanded it.

With all the things listed in previous posts, though, there is a class you could take to learn them: line dancing, gambling (Texas Hold 'Em is huge here - they have contests, but you can't play for money), golf, etc.

I know "take a class" is becoming a cliche answer for meeting people, but I do think a class might be a way to meet people with similar interests as yours who would be willing to share those activities with you later.

I am about to sign up for a grilling class and I'm considering golf lessons as well. I'm bored and lonely, so I might as well learn something in my free time. If I'm lucky, I might meet a friend or two.

AJ, enjoying life with C.

What I did was just kind of stand near people I'd seen there before, try to make it a point to smile and say hi to them, and try to make conversation with them.

Lately, fun for me has consisted of exposing my nieces to new things, anything. Taking them to an outdoor bistro downtown (they live in the burbs) for example. This weekend, we're going canoeing down the Harpeth River. Um, I love to get out and take pictures, nature mostly; that and fishing are two things I do not mind doing alone. I enjoy doing things with friends, such as: BBQ‘s, cooking ethnic food together, drinking wine, boating, back yard bonfires (one of them has about two acres of land), getting together with girlfriends and painting pottery.

Honestly, if it were not for one of my girlfriend’s, who is GREAT about keeping everyone in the loop, I probably would never have anything to do outside of my family.

Do you have any traveling buddies? Do you enjoy weekend getaways? What about your teacher friend would she be up for such? Could you stomach her, lol? At one of our local rest stops, there are all kinds of weekend-trip-idea-books for this area. If you were interested, you could probably even find suggestions for such online. Do you enjoy wine? There may be a winery near you. How about amusement parks? Southwest airlines had a $49 deal going on earlier this month. I think it's over now, but you could bookmark their website. You could go visit some cities you've wanted to see. There are usually some decent Vegas deals online.
