I've always wondered...your son is 16, right? Can kids not drive at 16 there? Or is it just that he doesn't have a car?

I'll admit...I'm bored enough that I've been looking through my friends' Facebook friends lists to see if they know anyone I know. I *might* be paying special attention to guys with the same first name as my crushes. Maybe. That's how bored I am! I don't know last names or I'd just search.

I hope the guy turns out to at least be normal. Normal is always a good start.

Hey Shy!

Sounds peaceful, if not very exciting.

Haven't you had a lot of "last straws" with this guy? Just sayin'.

I decided to attempt finishing a skirt I started to make last winter. It is not working. Despite making it from the largest size on the pattern, it's going to be about three inches too small. I thought I was getting close to being done, but the waistband is bigger than the skirt and I had two pieces left over. I went back through the directions and still can't figure out where those pieces go! I'll figure it out tomorrow.

It's about ten and I'm in bed on clean sheets. The comforter is still in the dryer, so I had to dig out blankets. The window is open and it's supposed to get down to 50 tonight, so hopefully it won't get cold. A man to keep me warm would be nice! But I didn't shave my legs this morning so he'd have to put up with prickles. I can't even stand the prickles right now!

The good news is that I've only had one coughing fit today! My throat is sore and feels like something sharp has sliced it in places, but only one coughing spell. Maybe it can start healing now.

I have paperwork to do too, but that does not sound like a perfect way to spend an evening!

I've just completely given up on Butterick and McCall's isn't much better.

There is a whole system here--they can get a permit at 16, but can't get their license until 6 mos. later, then for another 6 mos. can't drive w/ any friends in the car, so in effect I'll be driving him around for another year (or at least have to be in the car).

I used to do a lot of sewing and it's true that you could not go by the size you wear in store bought clothes--you have to go by the measurements on the pattern, plus since I'm short I always have to do some alterations before I cut things out.

Marina, I'm not sure what brand mine is...McCalls maybe? It's upstairs and I'm too lazy to look! But it is about 15 years old. Last Christmas, I raided my mom's patterns after I bought a sewing machine. I think it's a skirt she made for my sister when she was a teenager. I have another pattern that's much easier, so maybe I'll attempt that one first. I did find where one of the pieces goes, though!

Music, that sounds about like it is here, except they can get their permit at 15 and a half. My sister was driving the day she turned 16, she just had to drive alone or with a passenger who was over 18 (I think).

Shy I think she is just talking patterns, major ones are Simplicity, Butterick and McCalls. I have always struggled with Butterick as they have complicated patterns. Not sure if they do have a machine, nah they probably do, nevermind. My machine is out of commission because I lost the power/pedal cord.

This IS an interesting turn of events, how many regulars here dig the sewing? Maybe we can have an off topic sewing thread.

I know what she was talking about.
