Its spring break this week and it's supposed to rain every single day. Rained yesterday. Raining today. I was planning on cleaning out my garage today, but I'm not sure that's gonna happen. I'm feeling so unmotivated!

My dvr is half full, so I decided to watch some of it. I am so NOT impressed with American Idol this year. I had three episodes recorded and I'm ready to cancel the recording after watching just three performances. I think it's because they are all so young.

I might head out to find some new running shoes today. Mine aren't really worn out, but I have a toenail that keeps falling off so I'm going to go search for a pair that has more room for my toes.

And that's my day. So not exciting!

I have a funny story for you--my exH also liked art but he was kind of color blind.

Now one thing is could never do is get up the nerve to go to a bar alone--I have these visions of the nice neighborhood pubs in Ireland where people do know you, however where I live there is really nothing like that.

I always go out on Thursdays, Julia. It's my sanity night. Money does matter- single teacher with a mortgage means money always matters. I'd actually love to go to the zoo today, but it's raining...again. I actually like the zoo alone because I can just sit and watch animals for a long time and most people want to keep moving. I also like to take pictures of the animals. The chimps will even smile for you. I also thought about painting my garage today, but it won't dry in the rain. I'll probably end up cleaning today. It won't take me too long, but my house sure does feel messy right now.

I don't think I could go to a bar alone. It's about socializing for me, not about meeting men so I don't see the point if my friends aren't there. My married girlfriend goes to bars alone, though, and I kinda think she's toying with the idea of cheating. She flirts far more than I do, but it's usually with older or younger guys. I already think her husband has someone on the side, but I don't really have proof of that. It's just a gut feeling.

On a rainy day, nothing beats going to the movies alone--I have done it many times. You could also drive to an area of town you don't go to and eat lunch. Doesn't have to be expensive.

Of course, I love museums and galleries and I would not feel lonely in one. Lots of people aren't into them, so I'd rather go alone if I can't find someone. I've never felt lonely in a museum or gallery.

As to going to a bar alone: yeah, there just isn't anything like a pub here in the US. Not really. Oh, there might be some unusual cases of a bar being more like a pub, but I've not found one. I have gone to a nice wine bar near my house by myself on several occasions on wine tasting night, and it's far more civilized than the usual. But I grew tired of going by myself (of course, I have gone there with other people, too). It just felt like I was trying too hard and it felt lonely even though I had some perfectly lovely conversations there, mostly with other women.

I also won't go to dinner alone, at least, not in my city. When I have traveled alone I have done that, but it felt pretty lonely for the most part. That's why I don't really want to travel alone anymore.

Also when you travel, don't you feel like you have an "excuse" to be eating alone and people won't think you're wierd--if you do it in your home city, then I'd feel like people are thinking "poor thing, she has no friends."
