I'm just shy!

Hi. I'm new here and I need help. Pretty please? :)

A few months ago I got transferred to a different department at work where I met this man that I fell head over heels for. And while I personally don't really have to interact with him, nonetheless we are located in the same vicinity. I smile and say hello, he'll smile and say hello. But anything beyond that is non-existent; he's so busy all the time and I'm ridiculously shy. I'm sure if we were stranded in an elevator I would find it oddly easier to converse with him, but when all I have is a few moments to get his attention, I instantly clam up and try to blend into the walls. So annoying!

Does anyone have any advice on combatting shyness? I can only wish I had the social skills to be the life of the party.....

Alchohol is good. No, no, don't drink at work, I'm kidding. This is going to sound silly but why don't you get in some practice elsewhere before making your move? Go with some friends to a bar(sober tee-hee), walk up to a few guys who you may be slightly intimidated by, and chat them up for a little while. Do this a few times until you get pretty good at it and voila.

I know, easier said than done but it does help. I think you'll be surprised by some of the reactions you get. You never know, you could find yourself forgetting all about the guy at work!

Hello!

I agree with cfk - it's all about practice. And about having fun. :) I used to be very shy, but I've improved quite a bit over the years (of course, with lots of help from my dear friends)...

Good luck!
