So last week, I made the decision that since I'm on Spring Break this week, I'm going to look into buying a townhome.

After renting for what seems forever and at a time when our townhouse community's landlord was throwing us all out to make the units available for sale, I finally went ahead and bought my first house ("home") toward the end of last year. It's a 1994 built (2200 sq ft living space) two and half storied 4 bedroom (including a study if you will) house with 3 full baths including skylit master bath, dining, an upstairs kitchen, laundry room, ample storage, high ceilings, large family room, large closets, two car garage, landscaped front yard, backyard with my own pool(unfortunately no spa unlike my neighbor's), an orange tree (!) and a few palm trees , AND, in a community that's 75% Republican no less (no love for Hillary or Hussein out here). Normally I wouldn't have needed or bought a house this big, but given the market and the fact that it's a foreclosed house which the bank put on the market at an attractive price, it was a deal that couldn't be passed. It has enough room to house a normal 4-6 person family with ease, or about 842 illegals in every nook and cranny. It's truly a joy living here. Nice house, great community, normal people, fantastic shopping, dining, golf courses all around, abundant sunshine, palm trees -- why would people live anywhere else ? Beats me. With just me alone living in the house with nary a goldfish for a pet (yet), I can say my claustrophobia is all but gone..

It's not a bad idea to go with a larger lender, bank or not.
I'm trying to get myself debt free first. So no I haven't looked at anything. If I go into anything I want to be sure I dont' have any credit card debts that I am paying so right now I am still paying off some credit card debt so I want to be sure I'm not doing that so I am socking away at those first. But I am making great strides at that first and it shouldn't be too much longer now. I've paid off quite a bit in the past 8 months. So I could be in a really good spot by summer. But I'm afraid the market might turn back around and I'll be left in the cold. You know?
I found this condex the other day (or duplex) which apparently had no condo fees. Which means I would have to get someone to do the plowing but my cousins husband does plowing so I'm sure he could give me a good fee for 154 I think that's out of my price range but it was GORGEOUS and it was right by the college and in a great part of town. The North End is really gorgeous. Now that is dreaming. LOL

Okay, I tried to find information on average fees here, but couldn't.

The townhouses here aren't really in complexes so that may be part of the difference.
It's really interesting to hear what's available in different areas of the country and how much fees and such vary.
I watched a few minutes of "Property Virgins" last night, and the mother was shocked that a HOUSE (3 beds, 2-car garage, yard)
