Yes, it is shocking how big the price differences are from place to place.
My place turned out to be the perfect compromise. I have 500 square feet of fenced "yard." The brand new "condos" I spoke of earlier are going for $92,200.
Hopefully I'll be able to find a compromise, too.

(Oh, one more thing -- If you want a dog and get into a place with an HOA, ASK about the rules. I fell madly in love with a place and then found out they didn't allow dogs. They allowed cats, though, which annoyed me.)

I probably wouldn't get a dog unless I had a house with a fenced in yard.

I just thought of one other thing to share...when I was looking, I went back to each place after dark to get a feel for the neighborhood.
