For some reason I always get frustrated with my hair this time of year.

I have a hard time with haircuts, too.

Mine is the opposite of yours.

my hair also has multiple personalities! parts are straight as can be, others are perfect ringlets, and some just can't make up their minds.
I've had better luck in haircuts from stylists I trust than from bringing in pictures. I also couldn't ever find just the right picture, and it never turns out like that anyways. You can ask someone whose hair you like where they get it cut - I don't think it bothers most people to be asked. Or you can just do trial and error. I moved recently and lucked out to find a good stylist nearby. He's a little expensive, but I never have to stress out before I go in. He knows my hair's oddities, so he's good at suggesting a style that would be good for *me*, not some celeb or model.
good luck! let us know how it turns out!

I was feeling like this today, as well -- needing a new haircut. I was thinking something like this: http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4743/carmindy100new7ow.jpg
What do you think?

I have baby-fine, super straight hair that only does so much. I get stopped on the street all the time by people who would just "love to do my hair." Yeah, right. I always think "butcher" immediately. I think stylists see long hair and immediately want to chop it all off - but I don't think that's the right answer for everyone. If you like it long, nobody should force you into some trendy short shag. I have heard some advice (maybe an iVillage article) that if your haircut gets compliments only from women, watch out.

I think I just get freaked out when I contemplate a new haircut because, unless the stylist has the same kind of hair I do, they just don't get it -- and you risk getting a pseudo mullet. :) I know people with all hair types have this problem. I think I'm going to walk by salons and look for a woman with baby fine hair and then have her cut it.

Whatever you decide, Shy, make sure the stylist listens to you and respects what you want. Good luck and have fun with it.

That makes sense to find someone with hair like yours.

You'll have to send me the photos of the straight, not thick cuts you wanted. I always bring in photos and they tell me my hair's not thick or wavy enough for the ones I want.

I think sometime they just don't know what they're doing and then blame the texture of your hair as an excuse. :)

Glad you got a non-mullet look, and I hope you love it in a week.
