Knee Injury

As you might remember I sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago now. The ankle is much better, not as strong as it was before just yet (going down stairs is the most problematic now..walking and going up stairs isnt a problem) but its getting there.

However during my fall from grace, I landed really hard on my knees and most of my weight landed on my left knee. It was purple and scraped up but that is also now gone. However, the effects are still there. Its difficult for me to cross my legs because the pressure from one leg to the other causes pain. I can feel the knee go numb after only five minutes. Its difficult to squat, get on my knees, bend my left leg under the other for an extended period of time but its not hard to bend it (sitting in a chair type bend). How long should I go before I seek out a doctor? Any ideas for strengthening it?

Thanks ladies!

Whether you need a referral or not depends on what kind of insurance you have - I believe that most HMO plans require a referral while PPO plans allow you to see anyone you want but pay a greater percentage of the cost if you see a preferred provider.

Knee update:

Saw the doc today. He said its inflammed, swollen and a bit of fluid. He said its probably from the direct hit during fall but has gotten to this due to that leg supporting my body while my right ankle recuperated from the sprain. He put me on a low dosage of steroids to take over the week, keep it elevated, ice it for a few days, then heat it and a checkup on Friday. He said most of the time, people do this and the problem goes away without further problems. If not, then they see a specialist to figure out if the big bad needle is necessary for drainage and cortizone shots.

So yeah...I'm a little relieved to know that its nothing serious yet, like an infection.

Thanks ladies for all the information and help, I appreciate it! :D
