I have always felt uneasy looking at attractive women, and when I am caught looking, I would look away immediately. So, to overcome my discomfort, I have been making a conscious effort to hold eye contacts--with everyone, not just women. Some people look back, but some quickly look away. My question is how much looking is appropriate, showing that I am intrigued without scaring the other person?

I think that if you smile when they catch you looking, they'll realize you're just being friendly and not creepy or anything.

About 3 seconds of eye contact is socially acceptable.

I agree with Shy - the smile is key to making it look like you're not leering.

I usually stare wide eyed untill they walk faster in the opposite direction and look scared. Maybe I am doing something wrong? lol
