I do agree with you about the parents but it is also on the establishment's management to come over and ask the parents to please keep the children seated and not running around. They are perfectly within their rights to do that obviously because it is a hazard if they are knocking over waitresses with glasses or tripping over wires on the stage.
For example, I work at home depot at night, it's a warehouse, by no means should children be on our carpet rolls, they can't sit on the steps of our ladders because the ladders lock down by stepping on the bottom step, if someone put their fingers down and then sat down on the step their fingers would get caught or worse chopped off, there are blades on the blind cutters, the carpet cutters, etc. and so forth, all kinds of hazards we politely will tell children not to sit on things or play with things they aren't suppose too sometimes their parents will give us dirty looks but oh well its for their child's safety and if they never patron our store again I guess it's no great loss.
>>It would be a bad idea for me to be a mom, in this day and age. I would be a "mean mommy" because little Johnny would NOT get a cell phone, would NOT have a video game in his room, and would NOT get a television in the minivan. He would learn to say "please" and "thank you" <<
Amen to that. I'd be exactly the same way. We weren't even allowed to have a phone in our rooms until we were 13. There's no way my kids (if I have any) will ever have a TV, computer or video games in their rooms.
I think "no" is one of the best words a kid can hear. They may hate you at the time, but it helps them grow into functioning adults.
My kids wont get cell phones until they can pay for them. They wont be taking them to high school either, they'll keep them at home. They wont have tvs or video games in their rooms and the computer will be public and monitored. I'm sorry but what kind of punishment could I really give my kids when all their toys are in their rooms??
They'll work jobs in high school, in retail and in a professional setting later so they can learn how to deal with people and appreciate how they're behaviors affect others. They'll put money towards cars and college, though hopefully they wont struggle as much as I have, though they'll still appreciate the things they work for. If I have girls, they'll work with men. If I have boys, they'll work with women.
Kids and adults are incredibly entitled these days and it is a sad state of things. Nobody wants to work or earn anything, expecting it all to be handed down. Its crap!
