Message board mechanics: is this as good as it gets?

I know people have complained about the "new" message boards, and I'm going to join in. Why can't the clunkiness be fixed? Just now I had to sign in twice (again). The old boards let you sign in and stay signed in. Oh yes, I know there's a check box to "keep me signed in" but it doesn't work. Is this as good as it gets? It's been almost a year hasn't it? What's the hold up?

The old system would send you an email when someone responded to your message. No more.

There used to be spellcheck. No more.

The navigation is totally screwed up on the iPad---the breadcrumbs don't work. Plus, it doesn't resize in portrait mode. And on the iPhone--the text does not resize in portrait or landscape mode, so you have to scroll to read. And, it's incredibly s-l-o-w on all devices.

C'mon, iVillage, let's step it up.

That's the problem.  Some geek programmer can't understand the frustration of users.  Look at how much grief Windows 8 is getting for The metro .  People want to get to it.   Now the rumor is that Microsoft will make adjustments to Windows 8.  This is the same.  Even huffpost let's me know of answers to my posts.  I post on many threads and can't keep up with them.  Nor should I have too.  Even the regular (oldest) was easy to use.

Getting the censor nanny corralled would help as it is a real annoyance especially in the "adult" sections.  Since I can speak and write in High Victorian English it is clear that most people would need to look up meanings.  Using Vulgate transmits the concepts, ideas and emotions better.
