Would you risk life and limb to climb a mountain such as Everest? What if you married someone who was a climber, would you let them go? I wonder how these extreme sports enthusiasts get insurance? What drives them to such dangerous feats? Does anyone know anyone like this? I do not.
I watched the Discovery Channel last night. There are something like 200 dead bodies on Everest. With today's news about the search being called off for the two climbers on Mount Hood, I am both saddened and intrigued. I can't wrap my brain around the thought that someone would risk their life, losing an appendage or a limb for a sport.

Very well put!! I commend you on your grasp of the obvious!
So you never answered my question with regards to the beginning of this thread - have you read this book about the extremism on Mount Everest? You know... since that's what we were talking about to begin with...
Hey, anytime! You just let me know where to send it : )
Thanks for the tip about the fox hunting. I love horseback riding although, I am only a novice. This may be a dumb question, but you guys don't kill the fox do you? I think I read somewhere that most clubs do not kill them any longer.
I think it's great that you are taking your son skydiving. There are several skydiving clubs in the area. I always thought that I'd be able to do it myself, but then I went bungee jumping. The guys running the operation probably thought I was never going to get off of that platform! I still hope to get up the courage.
Those are some interesting hobbies!

Nope, haven't read it. Never heard of it until this thread.

Maybe YOU were. I wasn't.

Not a dumb question at all.
Some hunts do kill, some only chase, and some are drag hunts. Some that chase will kill only if the fox is sick or injured. Different hunts have different philosophies. I think it's safe to say that *most* American hunts chase fox or coyote without intent for an accounting (a kill).
LOL @ your bungee jumping story. Skydiving is easier. You are so far up that you really disassociate the earth from your body. Bungee jumping - you can see the spot where you *could* go splat.
Take the classes, do a tandem jump. You'll love it! (And it's a great place to meet guys - way more guys jump than women.)
