I just got back from a trip to Mexico - 95 degrees and 98 percent humidity is not my idea of a good time.

You go on a 10 day trip to New England, come back and almost immediately head for Mexico. Next you will tell us you just got back from Europe or S. America. OK, so who's this guy ?

No guy - just a fed up single gal who has decided that travel is important whether or not I have a boyfriend to join me. The New England trip was solo and the Mexico trip was with another single girlfriend. I happened to win airline tix at work for that trip - so that helped.

I really hope Europe or some other continent are on the list soon. :)

Traveling alone is one of the best things you can do to enrich life's experiences. My first job out of college was with a major airline (one of the two involved in 9/11). (No, I didn't load/unload baggages :) it was at their corporate offices ). Great perks - unlimited free travel(!) , but with the slight inconvenience of traveling standby. No big deal since we could easily check flight loads online before heading to the airport.

I have traveled alone, I have traveled with buddies from work, and I have traveled with a long term (now ex) gf. Maybe it's just me , but I had about as much fun traveling alone as I did with the ex. Well actually in some respects traveling alone was more convenient and liberating. The only exception was my trip to Paris with the gf; it was the most memorable of all my trips ever, but other than that I don't think I enjoyed any less when I was traveling solo. I got to travel to more places, see more people/cultures, travel faster and more conveniently (and often more cheaply !).. places I would otherwise never have seen if I were traveling with a companion.

I think there are pros and cons to both. I really enjoy sharing a trip with someone, especially a special someone, but traveling alone allows me to do only what I want/when I want. :) It's also often more meditative and relaxing to travel alone.

I can't really say I prefer one over the other. Some of my favorite trips were with my ex-bf, but I have loved my solo trips as well. The key for me is just traveling, no matter in what form.

(Sorry for the thread hijack).

If you're from the Philly area and go to the Jersey shore, I think the term is "shoobees" for the shoebox lunches people used to pack and eat on the beach.
