My job is stressing me out

I certainly wish it wasn't so far to retirement but it's also kind of late for me to be looking for another job--my only option at this point would be to open my own office and I don't have the capital to start that up.

I have been working (as a lawyer) for this very small law firm for 15 yrs--I started there 2 days a week while I was also working on my own cases then increased to full time as it was too hard to do both and I like having a regular salary as a single person when there is no one else to depend on.

He sounds like some of my students! Not prepared (some come in pjs bc they didn't get up in time), always think they are right, and totally disinterested until something goes wrong (like a bad grade on a grade card). It amazes me, but research shows that our personalities are completely formed at a very young age (it's around 6-8, but I can't remember the exact age). Your boss was probably driving his teachers crazy as a kid. I'd hate to have to work for someone like that.

Would you ever consider looking for employment elsewhere, or would that be too risky right now?

Hi;

well we all know how sucky the economy is and all but is there a way you would want to just atleast look for another job or send out resumes just in case. You never know what you could find out there .. and it doesnt mean you have to change jobs. It just means you are looking around..I know there must be something else out there for you or even maybe changing careers but staying in the same field. Have you ever gone to a life coach? I did once but it didnt help me much.. Just throwing out ideas..

Maybe you do need a change and you have been at that firm a long time and giving your service to them and they dont deserve you anymore.

When I was doing the reading about NPD it did say that it was caused by not getting enough attention as a child--and I know his mother was abusive.

Do you think he's looking to trim some fat or just doesn't have anything better to do other than micromanage?

I think he needs more money & has suddenly realized that you can't successfully run a business and never pay attention to what is going on--like last year he took 8 weeks of vacation!

Oh I am not a gentle suggester--I have been there so long that I just tell him straight out when I think he's wrong.
