See, that's another issue.
I really wasn't all that impressed with him, but that's normal.
I have to chime in again on the car thing, since we're off on this tangent... I definitely think that used cars are a better deal than new cars, because the minute you drive a car off the lot, it loses value. Then, someone inevitably dings your new car in the parking lot or you get a rock in the windshield. The "new" car gets becomes a "used" car pretty quickly with the wear and tear.
For me, a car is not an investment. It's a means to get from point A to point B. As long as it still runs and doesn't break down, I will drive a car until it literally dies. My current car is a '95, has 145,000 miles on it, has a few dings and such -- but still runs well. I don't have a payment, which also means my insurance is really low ($300 per year). It saves me so much money for other things.
Back to the guy -- I think the bigger issue is the vibe you're getting that he's not smart with his finances and that he might be odd in some way you haven't seen yet. I do believe pretty strongly in those gut feelings, so don't ignore them. Yet, I do also believe in giving someone the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

It's not really an issue of new vs. used.
>>I bought it because it was pretty.<<
:) -- as good a reason as any. Good for you, and I'm sure it does feel nice to sit in that new car smell and walk up to a bright, shiny, new car every day. I'm not knocking that at all.
As for the cleanliness thing. I have to admit I am terrible at keeping my car clean - inside or out. I always have a pile of papers in the seat, an extra pair of shoes floating around, etc. However, my apartment is spotless and I take care of everything else really well. I think it just shows that we all have different priorites - and cars are so not mine. :) (I think the last guy I dated did judge me for this - because he was a huge car guy. Bums me out to think that something external like that could end a potential relationship).

Well, you bought a Toyota, though, right?
LOL!
What???? You mean people actually *wash* their dashboards???
Wow. I've owned my car since 1995 and I can safely say I've never washed my dashboard. I've dusted it (once in a blue moon ;-)) but never washed it. Huh. It never even occurred to me ;-).
I have a very messy (and entirely paid for) car with a few dings and dents, and I don't care, LOL!!! So long as it gets me where I want to go, that's all that I really car about.

Glad I'm not the only one, Sheri and Stacey. :) Yeah, wash the dashboard??
My car gets vacuumed when I take it in for an oil change, so that's something, I guess. :)

Yeah...washing it and putting protectant (like Armorall) on it makes it last longer.
