My sink won't drain!

I hate having to call someone to fix stuff for me. My brother in law said he was going to look at the sink and my AC while he was here, but he didn't have time. I have a friend whose husband will look at it, but I hate asking him. I really just wish I had a man who walked through the door every night who could either fix things for me or call someone and have it taken care of!

Of course, I'm also not a fan of men at the moment, so I might have a conflict going in there...

Nooo! A friend's husband fixed it for me. Think 50+ and Herman Munster-like! Super nice guy, though. He thought I was going to be upset that I had to buy couplings and glue to put the pipe back together!

I absolutely could not have fixed it myself! He tried to snake the drain, but the clog was too far and around a bend. He had to cut the pipe in two spots, take it outside and hose it out (lucky for you we don't have smell-a-post), and reattach it. It was disgusting. Really, really disgusting. After it was fixed, I discovered that my hardwood in the kitchen is now warped. Not happy about that, but it can wait to get fixed. At least I can do dishes now, and it only cost me $12.

Well it's not that hard to call a plumber yourself--if you're going to dream, go for the guy who fixes himself.  lol  When you're a homeowner, it's good when you have reliable people you can call who get to know you as a regular customer.  I have a regular plumber and a guy who fixes the heating system and cleans out the boiler every year.  What I am missing is an electrician, but I have a handy man/contractor type guy I can call for everything else.

I got in a car accident this weekend--luckily I am not hurt, but pretty big damage to the rear of my car so this am I had to go to the drive in appraisal place.  Now I will have to take it somewhere to be repaired.  I have rental coverage on my policy (and it was the other driver's fault anyway) but I have to figure out when I can get out of work, then I have to coordinate either having my son drive me or get the rental place to pick me up, which they will do--it is a pain always to have to do this stuff by yourself.  I had met up w/ my best friend on the day of the accident (was on the way to a concert w/ her) and her exH called me and asked if I had a good body shop to go to cause he could recommend one--but they live an hour away so that would be inconvenient.  But he still does all that kind of stuff for her--it's not like anyone is looking out for me.

I was going to suggest a snake, too.

I always love when the toilet decides to start running continuously for no apparent reason.  That drives me crazy!

I live alone and own my own home, so there are numerous little "chores" like this I don't particularly enjoy taking care of. Whenever I'm faced with one I don't want to do, I think, "I'll get the other FloridaGirl to do this!" Silly I know.

There are just some days when it's just almost more than you can stand, other days no big deal. I do have a $15 sink snake as well as one of those long plastic sticks with teeth on it for clearing drains. It does save a lot of money (and TIME) when you can do it yourself. Hey, I even fixed my toilet once, when the plumber said I'd have to get a new one.

But I know you know you could do it yourself--and yes, wouldn't it be nice if there were someone else that could take care of these "man" jobs? I'd gladly do the cooking and laundry if someone would take care of the yard, cars and sinks!

Is it because you don't know how to do it? It isn't that difficult...I've had to unblock drains because of toilets that won't flush and that isn't pretty and I'm not a plumber...

This video might help: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-unblock-a-sink

You ladies missed the part where I said he could call someone. And where I was wishing. I'd never wish for a guy who can't fix things. That'd be a waste of a wish!

Ugh, I say the same thing all the time!  I am lucky that my Dad lives 2 hours away, and sometimes can come up to take a look at things.  But I know that a live-in boyfriend or husband is no guarantee either.

I wish I lived closer because I have a super plumber who will come over whenever it's convenient for me at no extra charge (sometimes he brings his very well behaved daughter with him, which is totally fine with me.)  Plumbing is something I really can't mess around with since I live in a condo and any water issues would affect a lot of people!
