Hi. I was lurking on your board and liked what I read. I post on a few of the other boards, and have had good experiences so far, and a lot of the threads here seem to echo what I think. I wanted to drop in and introduce myself before I added to any posts.
Thanks, Heather

Thanks. Born and raised in Boston. Went to school in VA and then came back - always wanted a loft in Beacon Hill. :)

Oh GOD....I'm with you there! :) I was born and raised on the South Shore, but I'm in Brighton now. I looked at a place in Beacon Hill (you can actually find reasonably-priced apartments if you look REALLY hard, haha) with a gorgeous roofdeck....but my potential roommate wasn't interested. Can you imagine the Fourth fireworks from up there?? ::sigh:: That'll be my next goal...that or the North End, I'd love a little hide out there...I'd probably gain some weight though. :)

LOL. I did my time in Allston, right in Union Square. I like the vibe over there. Oak Square is a nice area too. But I start my Master's in September - being closer to school might be nice. A friend has a terrace apt. in the North End, it is absolutely gorgeous. He pays for the atmosphere, but as he is a fabulous decorator type, he doesn't mind.
Funny you mentioned the fireworks, my office is right on Memorial Drive, on the 7th floor and the office offered to host a party, but no one wanted to come! I think a lot of the natives just don't want to deal with 100,000 tourists.

Yeah, I refused to live in Allston (I went to BU, so it was too close to home, so to speak, plus I was just never a big fan of the area even when I was in school), but a lot of areas in Brighton are nicer than I thought they would be. I live about a two minute walk away from Brookline, so it's a cute little area. The North End has a few affordable gems, too, but they're also hard to come by (I saw so many apartments this fall and spring, it was ridiculous).

Yeah, dealing with the tourists is not so fun, but being able to walk upstairs in your own apartment, maybe a beer, a glass of wine...THAT's my kind of Fourth of July. :)

Yeah, I don't know WHAT'S the deal with the high proportion of MA residents...although to be fair, some of us (not me) aren't single, so that makes me feel a little better. :)
