It was hot and humid out today. When I moved into the apartment I live in now, one of my roommates told me my room has an air conditioner, and she even showed me where it was (being stored in the spare bedroom next to mine). This was heavenly to me, since where I lived last summer and the summer before that, I could not have an AC in my room because the wiring in the house would not have been able to take it.
Since it's been hot out a lot the past month or so, we've been talking the past couple of weeks about getting some of our guy friends over to help us put our AC's. She had her brother put hers in the other day (her room is on the third floor, so her room gets REALLY hot). Well, today, I decided that I don't need a man! I could do it myself, darn it! So I got home from work, changed my clothes, and went to assess the situation. I figured, "Surely I can carry this thing from one room to the next." However, as I bent down and tried to lift it, I realized this was a pipe dream.
Then inspiration struck: I have a four-wheeled TV cart in my room that I put my computer tower, modem, and various odds and ends on. So, I cleared it off and wheeled it into the other room. I managed to hoist the heavy AC unit up onto the cart, and wheel the cart with the AC back into my room.
The cart with the AC was at the perfect level with the window, so I didn't have to lift it too far. So, yep, I managed to get the AC in the window all by myself, AND screw the little shutter thingys that come out of the side to fill the gaps in the window in place.
And I managed this with just one small injury: there are these metal "thingys" on the back of the unit (the part that sticks out the window), and without realizing it, I must have rested my wrist against them. Well, the little metal "thingys" were like tiny little blades, and they left kind of a weird-looking series of paper-cut-like cuts on my wrist. I did not notice my boo-boo until I happened to look down and noticed I was bleeding. LOL
But all in all, I'm pretty impressed with myself. I managed to do this without slamming the window on my fingers (like I did when I tried to put a FAN in the same window a month ago), dropping the AC out the window (like me and my old roommate almost did trying to put in the one AC she had for the living room), falling out the window, hitting my head on anything, or dropping anything on my foot. The only other mishap was that I tried to prop the window open with these little metal rods that came with a shoe rack I was never able to put together , and I accidentally knocked one out the window and it is now on the roof of the front porch. Hehehe
Teacher, do I get a gold star? :)

I will give you that star. (-: It is amazing what we can do when we set our minds to it. Good for you. Treat yourself today, you earned it. It is days like today for you that make us feel impowered . . . . we / us . .. just meaning people. (-:
Thanks for sharing that. Yah, I get a lot of satisfaction from "doing things on my own" like that. Something I try to teach my kids.
Here's your gold star sweety *

I'd say a gold star is in order! I LOVE when I'm able to do something that many girls wouldn't even attempt to do - they'd wait for a man to "rescue" them! :p I pride myself and often say "I can do anything a man can do!" okay... ALMOST anything! :p
And I just have to say your attitude... positive, upbeat and optimistic attitude is very refreshing! I notice it in alot of your posts and I wish I exuded half as much - but well... I'll just enjoy your attitude instead! :p
Whoo Hoo! girls rock!
Congrats!

Here's your gold star, Stacey!
It's funny, the things we think we can't do, but really can.
I'm always one to attempt to carry heavy things...unless I just don't feel like it. At work, I'm always asked to change the water bottle on the water cooler, because everyone else has back problems.
I'll flip my queen sized mattress myself, and I carried a twin mattress down a flight of stairs by myself once. I then attempted to carry an old-fashioned heavy metal bed spring/frame thingy down the stairs once...but I gave up on that very quickly when I realized how terribly I could hurt myself if I fell or the thing fell on me.
