OMG........The WORST thing!!!

Hi,

So many of you have been so kind to listen to my recent stories about my contract job.  So far, it's still status quo.......I'm working my butt off as an admin and trying to be damn good at it.......but that is actually not the worst thing!! lol.

I believe I mentioned that I live in a kind of umm......not so great area now.  It's close to the lake, so it's great for walking my dog, etc. but some businesses are just not so reputable.

I had gone to a nail place a few times within walking distance of me - cheap, but okay.  I had my hair done there once (BIG no no), but they seem okay for minor things like waxing, pedicures, etc. (also good for a girl on a budget!!).  I also had a couple of facials there......I used to have acne quite a bit but now just the odd one......they mostly just clear off the surface stuff (blackheads, etc.).

Soo........one week into my new job I go there on a Saturday for a facial and pedicure.  When I went for the facial, the steaming machine was broken and the woman was using a steel implement to push stuff out of my skin.  Something she did really hurt and I said "OWW!!", but that can be standard with facials.......the following day (Easter Sunday) I had a small pimple forming on my cheekbone.  Unfortunately, it blew up and for the next two weeks (new on the job) I had this *huge* honking, deep pimple on my face.

A few weeks later now.......I have treated it with everything - hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, etc.......even went out on Saturday and paid $80 for Proactiv....not all puffy anymore but still a big, round, zit like structure on my face.  My mom works for doctors and I asked her about it - she told me today that it should be treated carefully, and may not go away for *several* months........!!!!!!!!! It stands out like a sore thumb on my face!! I can't deal with that!!

So I book an appt with my GP......I went to see her tonight and it turns out that it is now scar tissue.  She gave me some antibiotic cream and booked me in with a dermatologist (seeing a specialist takes *forever*) - and while the visit is covered by the government, the treatment/shot the dermatologist will give is not.  Plus, it will probably be several weeks before I get in to see this specialist.

I called my mom to let her know and she said "Oh well - if you see a dermatologist you will have to make sure it's at night so you don't miss work." And......"Oh well.....I guess that will cost some BIG money."  I was like - really?? This is my FACE we are talking about!!

So now I have this cream on my face........wondering how long I will be walking around with this thing......the rest of my face is clear so when people talk to me inevitably their eyes go to this inflamed area......

Then, when I finally got home, my dog crapped on my bathroom mat!! It was so bad the whole thing had to go into the garbage........she is usually really good, so she must not have been able to hold it for some reason.......

Ahhh!! I feel shallow......I know in particular Shy has gone through a really rough situation, requiring surgery........this is cosmetic, but big pimples are such a bummer, and my doctor said it *will* scar.......*sigh*........ :(

Have you checked with another dermatologist in you provider network?  If you called around, you might be able to find one that can seen you sooner!  I had a similar situation with a spider bite on my abdomen.  It's been several years, but the scar looks like I was shot with a BB gun.  I'm sure it's different since spider bites involve venom and tissue necrosis, but it really did look like a giant whitehead.

I actually had something similar when I was in college. I tried to pop a zit on my own and instead of popping outward, the doctor said it sort of popped in, creating a cyst. It just kept spreading, and by the time I went to the doctor, that side of my face from cheekbone to eye socket looked bruised and was turning black. Antibiotics cleared it up and I don't have a scar from it. I have other acne scars, but they're from when I was much younger and didn't know not to pop them. I definitely wouldn't go back to that place.

That is too bad.  I remember when I was a teenager many years ago and before all the new things they havenow, the dermatologist would use something like that, but I don't think anyone but a medical professional should be doing that. :(  I hope you won't have a noticeable scar.
