Opening lines...any suggestions?

Okay, I'm the shy type and I'm always stupefied about how to start up a conversation with an absolute stranger. But there's this guy in my neighborhood who I see every now and then in the morning as I pass by his house on my way to work. He's usually in front of his yard walking his dog and and the couple of times I saw him there, he made intense eye contact with me. I'm more subtle in the way I flirt so I can't hold his gaze though I think he knows I'm attracted to him since I smiled his way last time. What do I say?! I'm very attracted to him and want to get the ball rolling. What's a good opening line for someone in your neighborhood that you pass by often?

You never know. He could be shy. If she has trouble looking for an ice breaker, he might, too. He could also be involved with someone else right now or something, but I'm just saying. It's not all that weird for a guy not to be able to approach a girl he thinks is attractive.

>If he's attracted to her (and that's an if) he
>needs to do something about it.

What do you propose ivegotsauce should do in the mean time? Wait like a woman or break the ice like a man?

What I propose she does is be friendly.
There's nothing wrong with making conversations about his dog or what have you.
Maybe saying something about the weather or something. That's breaking the ice.
Even waving and saying hi.
That should atleast get them gradually talking and break the ice a little.
And then I think if he's not asking her out, then he's probably either involved or not interested/attracted enough but shy definitely not. No such thing especially if someone is making it easy for you.
I've been down this road enough, so I know. He either asks you out or he doesn't but usually if he doesn't it's not because he's shy. Someone else is probably ringing his bell at the moment. My experience.

Sheesh, I didn't think my seemingly innocent question would start such a debate!:) Well, I didn't see him again this week but I probably will at some point since I take the same route every day. A lot of guys just look at me and say nothing or are intimidated by me so I've found that I sometimes have to make the first move if I'm really interested. Plus yeah, I'm on my way to work so unless I stop to talk to him, he might feel weird about stopping me as I'm walking by or worse, have me walk right past him and ignore him. And no, I never ask men out though I may hint at it if they're dragging their feet.

Yeah good look...nevermind the remarks I said about guys making the move...though I just have this tendency to think that if the guy does nothing...then he's not interested. That's my mistakes then. I think she should just walk by the next time say Hi how's it going...

Next day...take it a step further...and further each day based on how he reacts...if he's interested even a little bit...it would give him the confidence to do something about it.

Hi ivegotsauce,
Just wondering what happened with that guy...
Did you see him again, and did you say anything to him?
Would be interested to know of any update on this...

I've heard about the doggie routine. What worries me is that one day dear old poopsie...LOL...may decide to cleanse his colon right in front of the man you are trying to converse with.

And you know, the only canine I ever met that was very private, even secreative about his toiletries, was my Siberian husky. He would run into the forest for his duty time. Then he would return with a silly grin exposing all his very sharp canine choppers.

I gaurantee you he'll react positively to that!!!

Ha, thanks for thinking of me. I saw him a couple of times but it was from a distance when he wasn't directly in front of his house and we could make convo. He saw me though and looked my way like he always does so I'm hoping that by the end of the summer, we will have made some kind of conversation just to see if it's something worth pursuing. The funny thing is I just got a little dog (since everyone in my neighborhood seems to have one and I was getting jealous!) so our little ones may run into each other soon.
