Have you guys seen the Wen hair care infomercials? He is always talking about how "the lather is bad for your hair". I started dying my hair a couple of years ago and it was getting progressively less healthy with each passing dye job. I started Googling around the last time that I dyed it, back in November and found several links encouraging one to wash hair with conditioner instead of using shampoo which, strips hair of essential oils. I was at a get-together last night and someone was sporting a new hair color. We got onto the topic of making the color last longer and I was shocked to learn that another person was also washing her hair with conditioner. Everyone else in the room was looking at us like we were crazy but I swear, my hair is the healthiest it's been since I started dying it. I even use the cheap-o Sauve conditioners. Anyway, I had copied this link to send to some girlfriends so I thought I'd share it with you all as well:

* Sometimes I do have to wash it with the conditioner twice and I rinse thoroughly. The extra step isn't an issue because I would have to do the same if I were using shampoo + conditioner. The other girl from last night, who also washes hers with conditioner, said she does feel the need to use shampoo once a week but I haven't used it once in four months. It never looks or feels dirty.
Interesting! I might try that-
I have definitely noticed that my hair color fades quite a bit with washing, so I've been trying to cut back to 5 wash/blow drys a week. In the winter, that's generally manageable.
Thanks for the tip!
I tried this and it does work. I feel like I need shampoo though, so I applied the conditioner first, then shampood and reconditioned again. I really made a difference.
