OT: How was T'giving?

Mine was good. Rough count, I think we had ten different dishes and two desserts. My tummy is still full!
We had several family members who were with significant others and their families so there were only 9 of us but it was nice. We celebrated at my sister's house for the first time. She has 3 cats and 2 dogs. My eyes were screaming by the time I left! We mostly chatted but did fit in a fun round of Catch Phrase.
So, I have two questions (it's gloomy out, chilly & I'm bored) :
1. What do you do when you accidentally plop a rather lofty portion of something onto your plate that it turns out, you don't enjoy, and the hostess is sitting right across from you? Do you choke it down and hope for the best? Or, do what I did and cover it up with something you made while she isn't looking, then toss?
2. How was your Thanksgiving?
I enjoyed Thanksgiving. My DD is home for the week (although now she's at her BF's so I won't see her probably til Sunday). She & my DS & I went to my mom's for dinner and my aunt also lives there so there were only 5 of us but then we went to my cousin's house for dessert. I miss spending time w/ the extended family but now there are too many of us. Then I watched football last night. Today I am happy to have the day off but I won't get paid for it so that's kind of bad, but it's not like I want to go to work and sit around with nothing to do either.
My son asked me to pick up him & a friend from the mall this am so I figured I'd go in there & shop a little first--and basically I didn't buy anything since I just got there and he wanted to go home. There were so many cars there it was crazy--I sure don't enjoy taking 20 mins. to drive around the parking lot stalking someone who's walking back to their car to find a space and everybody is honking their horns & getting upset. I had a hunch & went up to the top floor of the parking garage and there were a lot of spaces when I got there at 11:00 but by the time I left, that was full too. I can't imagine the people who are going shopping at midnight or 5:00 am. Well now son has to go to work in his own store until 11:00 pm--at least he rested on the couch for an hour first.
Oh and if I didn't like the food, I just wouldn't eat it if I really hated it.

This is why I never ever ever give myself big portions of anything unless I've had it made by the cook before. I choose to instead risk looking like an anorexic and take teeny spoonfuls of items. And by a teeny spoonful, I mean about a teaspoon. I'd rather taste a small portion then feel obligated to eat a bunch of something that is nasty or throw it out. After my initial sample plate then I'll take larger portions of the items I liked. As for the host/hostess noticing? I have found that most people are polite enough not to push for comments about the meal until near the end.
2. How was your Thanksgiving? Nice and quiet and I got to do whatever I wanted. Of the 3 big holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter) my immediate family now picks one to celebrate and this years choice is Christmas. It was nice not to have to worry about cooking or shopping with school and work stuff going on. The holiday ended up being really great. I went on a date the night before that left me with a happy buzz all day turkey day. Then I spent turkey day relaxing and having a tv show marathon while eating Mexican food. I'm spending Black Friday staying off the roads, not shopping, and will probably either study or do some housework.

I stay away from the malls during peak hours and holidays. I don't have the patience for it. I did hit up one boutique with my nieces around lunch time today but it's a little out of the way place so it wasn't crowded at all.
I'm glad you got some QT in with your kiddos ;]
I started to scoop less but we served ourselves buffet style (there wouldn't have been room for our plates @ the table) and she was standing right behind me.
I'm glad you derived a happy buzz from your date - that's awesome! "Then I spent turkey day relaxing and having a tv show marathon while eating Mexican food. I'm spending Black Friday staying off the roads, not shopping, and will probably either study or do some housework." --- This sounds so good to me right now. I brought two of my nieces home with me last night but my sister is picking them up after dinner. I plan to have a day exactly like yours, but tomorrow ;]

This site is possessed. I hit post on this reply, went back to check it and there was a post but it was blank.
Thanks for the useful tips, Lady. I will definitely employ some of your tactics in the future!
